For the recent [livejournal.com profile] spnland short writing challenge, All's Fair, with the prompt of double cross. I hope they unscreen the entries, because there was one about Sam called Thirty that I want to link to *SO MUCH*. It was so freaking perfect, and exactly *everything* that I feel about 6.01 Sam's motivations. (Take that, random author in a comm I saw who referred to Sam in their fic header as a douchebag.)

What I can link to, at least, is [livejournal.com profile] keerawa's entry: http://keerawa.livejournal.com/118112.html, Five Deals, Five Days [PG-13] Bela Talbot, 600 words. It's completely brilliant. My default icon's also one of hers, because it is so freaking perfect for October. ♥ (It's October already, wtf wtf wtf \o/ )

Two for [livejournal.com profile] spnland's recent "Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue..." poetry challenge. The second's sort of my usual, but the first was a bit of an experiment (I haven't done anything with meter and rhyme in years). Four stanzas where each stanza is four lines of iambic tetrameter followed by a repeating last line (a phrase that's trochaic hexameter); and the first and third lines of each stanza rhyme. And yeah, the title was me being cutesy with apocalypse + apocrypha. Probably should have just titled it the subtitle and left it at that.

But the first was an attempt to explore humankind (within the Supernatural setting of the US, that is) during the apocalypse. In other words, those that aren't hunters--those just caught in the middle of this bizarre war between Heaven and Hell, not cared about or even really noticed much by demons or angels (except perhaps when used as tools). Anyway. Blah blah blah words.

Notes: For the recent [livejournal.com profile] spnland fanmix challenge. I still suck at graphics, but had fun doing this anyway.

For Dean. Call it what you will--hard rock, classic rock, cock rock, hair band heavy metal--most every band who played that sort of music had their ballads. Because even if you claim to have no chick flick moments, you know love and loss, you grieve, and you cry. This is the music to play during those times--when you're remembering your brother and missing him so damned much; when it hurts so fucking bad you wish he hadn't made you promise to live; when you're still loving him just as strongly, just as forever, as when he was still here.

2. I woke up, on my own, without alarm, at 5:35am. What the hell in fuck.

3. Also, still feel like crap. Awesome. Really hoping the cold isn't trying to turn into something needing antibiotics.

4. Didn't go to that one guy's place for movie night (yeah, yeah, I know...husband really tried to play mediator and eh, I just eventually let it all blow over), because of said cold, but I'm glad I had an excuse since what with no air conditioner I guess it was 95F over there. Disgusting. But he loaned us his Batman: Under the Red Hood dvd, so I didn't miss out. Which is rather awesome of him.

5. http://catandgirl.com/?p=2547 Reminds me of internet fandoms. It's a small, small online world sometimes.

6. Sam, Sam, Sam, Sam, Sam. Jared, Jared, Jared, Jared, Jared. There. At least he's got *someone* out there thinking about him.

7. Remembered the other day why I liked O-Zone. Some of their slow songs were really pretty. And of course, who can't like Dragostea Din Tei. For some reason, it made me nostalgic for old memes and flash animations.

8. August needs to quit going by so fast.

I. I. What. But for some reason it *amuses* me.

This afternoon and evening was almost entirely comprised of doing a [livejournal.com profile] spnland puzzle challenge, and then redoing half because I am a dumbass who can't read instructions right. I love the feeling of "1am?? Where the fuck did my evening go??" :| (Even had WoW running, but barely actually managed to play, just treated it like a extra-fancy IM program--though not sure why, because I was talking with everyone in Vent as it was.) Also, I seem to have missed the Team Hell chat (last night?), because I can't seem to manage converting dates and time zones right. Dumbass x2 \o/

Having a cookout tonight with the folks I D&D with, though no fireworks planned. Should still be cool. Originally was going to make something to bring with, but just bought something premade, one because I'm lazy and two at the rate I'm going I probably would have bolluxed that all up as well, or maybe just burned the house down. :p (Nearly messed the oven up *again* Friday night, thanks to two el cheapo frozen pizzas on the oven rack and only one not-as-wide-as-the-two-pizzas cookie sheet beneath them. Woo, go me \o/ )

3am is probably not a wise time to decide I need schmoopy fic *right now*. :|

Okay, a confession. I have only read one BigBang so far. :x I'm fail, I know--I just haven't been good at focusing on long fic, and have been reading a lot of 5k-10k and type length stuff. And I've just been in this mood where I want/need stuff that's lighter, and a lot of BigBangs have been so serious, angsty, dramatic, or the sorts that really make you hurt until the end. So...I've kind of been avoidant, even when it's stuff written by people on my flist and I should read because I do care for you all and think so highly of the work you've done. D:

But this is that one BigBang, and I adore it so. I've been so excited for it since I heard the premise, because c'mon, J2 and D&D in one? SCORE \o/ It makes my fangirl and my fangeek heart happy. And this is delightful. It's fun, exciting, action and adventure-filled, as well as sweet and adorable and b'awwww ^____^ ♥ She mixes the story with the game world/mechanics so smoothly and so well (and trust me, it's difficult to do that)--and it's something that's cool to read both if you're a D&D player and even if you've never heard of the game at all. Give it a try! ♥ And the art's really nicely done, too~

So a funny thing about the latest [livejournal.com profile] spnland_media challenge (013: roses are red, violets are blue). I've been waiting for a poetry challenge since this round started. But my [livejournal.com profile] spnland participation has really sucked lately. Sporadic is being generous (I'm one of the reasons Team Hell keeps coming in like third even though our members place, because of low participation points >_> ). But the poetry one, I *swore* to myself if I didn't enter, I'd punch myself in the face. And...let's just say I was hours away from having to do that.

Anyway, two poems, one banner (♥). And no facepunching at this time. Also, isn't it awesome to read an entry after voting's all done and see typos? Adfkfjk.

http://keerawa.livejournal.com/108208.html was an entry that I thought kicked ass. \o/ And [livejournal.com profile] coyotesuspect had two that I'm terribly fond of which I'll link to whenever she posts 'em to her journal. ♥
whitereflection: (sam hair curl)
Feeling sort of hidey, which I guess translates into not replying to comments or working more with the current [livejournal.com profile] spnland game like I should, while yet being okay with babbling here. :F Also didn't seem to have problems doing some WoW on Bronzebeard, though I didn't really talk much except to Al and Kas. Made myself get Nin to 73 so I can finally start her on Grizzly Hills, finally finished the Draenei starting area stuff I like so much on Sampala. Still think that ending quest series and the little mini-event at the end after you turn it in is one of the coolest things in the game, and certainly *the* best way of ending a starting zone.

Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] spnland and WoW.... Slept for beans last night b/c of the knot in my shoulder, shallow and restless. Had bizarre dreams all night that I was trying to keep up with comment threads, but at the same (quit spelling that as Sam) time was running Sampala around the Draenei capital city, the Exodar. Then I realized that other characters I was passing by had the name of other community members (I distinctly remembering seeing [livejournal.com profile] coyotesuspect's name). Yeah, I don't know. I just don't know. Other people get Supernatural dreams, I get [livejournal.com profile] spnland/game dreams. What.

For my gamer friends:
http://www.wolfire.com/humble
The Humble Indie Bundle. Being sold for the next 6 days, it's 5 games that you can get either in PC, Mac, or Linux format, and *you name your price*. No lie. You choose how much you want to pay, can either pay by Paypal, Amazon, or Google checkout, and you can choose whether to have what you pay go either all to the Child's Play charity, entirely to the developers, an even split, or a split of your customization. And the games come DRM free. Friend of mine recommends 3 of the games for sure, hadn't tried the other two yet. But it's a great deal, and is worth trying out. The downloads were quick, too.

Also:
http://malandchad.com/ This is cute.

No more allergy shots, which is yay. Though it was because my allergist says they're really not doing any more to help me, sort of hit a plateau and haven't improved over the past year. It's been about 5 1/2 since I started those though, which is about a normal course. He is having me try new allergy meds though, since the Allegra/Nasonex combo really hasn't been working well anymore.

Finally noticed that my bangs are down to my chin. >_< I'd say I have Sam hair, but mine isn't nearly so thick or wavy or full of awesome. Need to get it trimmed, as I look fugly with it gone so long. Won't lose much off the back though, other than to even it up--very nearly to my goal of knee-length.

One last thing and I shut up:
http://community.livejournal.com/graphicinmotion/15178.html
Incredible fanmix by [livejournal.com profile] secretlytodream called Not As We, focusing on Sam and Dean this season. I have a thing for s5, I really do, and I've wanted to do a fanmix for it--but she does it just perfectly. And her art is *Amazing*. Truly. And art for each track. The music is just utterly perfect fit, too, and just what I love most--a mix of favorites I already knew, and things I don't know but realize I'm now in love with. (I think I especially fell for Grand Archives, will have to find more of their work someday.)
whitereflection: (sam oh fuck *that* shit)
Asdfdkfjf. How can my brain be so *tired* and so going a mile a minute at the same time? [livejournal.com profile] spnland's latest game thing is awesome, but my eyes started crossing from comment thread overdose.

I swear, I am so close to telling my guild that I don't want to raid anymore. At least I don't want to leave. I don't think. At the moment. I am just so tired of drama and upheaval and stress and emo tantrums. It's funny, when I'm hanging with the DotA gals lately on Bronzebeard, just levelling, I'm happy, content. It's relaxing. Yet every raid night over on E'T is some hullaballoo or another that is just making it uncomfortable to *be* there. Always feeling pissed off at one person or another. I remember from when I started there, up until a while ago, we could do progression raiding and *gasp* still have it be an easygoing and fun atmosphere. There was the occasional hiccup (the first GM I knew leaving and trying to break up the guild, a problem 'princess'), but in between we did well, raiding was cool. Now I dread it, and my dread's shown to be valid every damned night. I dunno.

Sad thing is, is except for the Lich King fight (25 at least) I *like* raiding still. I'd want to keep doing it if people weren't starting to be crappy, and if the LK fight weren't burning me (hell, not that we even *got* to him this raid week). I want to see the Ruby Sanctum thing they're coming up with soon. But I'm so sick of it being so horrid tense and all this childish behavior going on *every* *damned* raid night. Honestly, don't they notice that someone who was around on offnights working on Wynnchester suddenly only shows up on official raid nights? Don't they think that's meaningful about the whole tone of the guild right now?

Anyway. Shutting up about that. Muscle knot that's been flaring up in my right neck/shoulder (I guess to balance the one that I tend to get where left shoulder/neck meet) said HAI THERE and woke me up. Motrin + cherry pit hotpack on and off all day, and but it's still cranky and redeveloping whenever I tense or move wrong. As a right-side sleeper, this is gonna be interesting. :|
whitereflection: (winchesters bickering married couple)
It's funny that the thing I was looking forward to doing most for [livejournal.com profile] spnland was writing, and ironically, what's the thing I haven't been able to do almost at all since it started? Yeah. Started out okay, but ever since.... Nearly nothing. Wouldn't even call it being blocked or locked up, because that implies there's something there to block or lock up. There's just really nothing in my head, writing-wise. And I'm gonna just laugh at myself for the whole "I wanna be a poet" thing, because yeah. To write as a career, you have to be able to, you know.... There's just no words, not for fan stuff, not for original projects.

Naturally, I actually had one idea for this one challenge due tomorrow (love letter from one character to another), and I was like yay and worked on it, and then realized the rules state it's got to be major, named characters and what I had won't work, not a bit. Sooo yeah. Awesomes. Least there's games there, because that's the only stuff I seem to be able to accomplish. That and voting on things.

I guess I could understand if I were just having trouble with character-focused things, because I'm a pretty lousy fan that just isn't as into secondary characters all that much, and some I'm outright *blah* on. I mean, yeah, I like Bobby and some others, but really if it isn't Sam or Dean (or okay, maybe the Impala), I just don't get too motivated. But there's been plenty of general writing challenges that don't demand certain characters, in which I could have written with Sam and Dean. Yet still no inspiration or success at motivating myself.

Then lately when I see everyone talking about their big bang projects, I get the little thought in my head of "Next year I'll try that!". Hey, self? Yeah. This is me pointing and laughing at you. LoooooooooOOOOOOOoooooooool. Pull the other one, it's got bells on. Dumbass.

At least I can accomplish things in WoW (Nin to 72, Sampala to 17), that's worth something right? Right? Yeah, didn't think so. :|

Title: A Letter To My Brother (SamMix: A Sam Winchester Fanmix)

Subject: Sam Winchester

Summary: When the most important person in your world doesn't want to hear your apologies or your explanations, when they won't believe you didn't do it to hurt them, how do you make them understand? A few moments of Sam Winchester's life, saved as a playlist on his iPod for the it'll-never-happen day that Dean might listen to it.

Notes: This is the fanmix I intended to enter for the [livejournal.com profile] spnland challenge in early April (though I've changed some track choices since then).

Disclaimer: I have no ownership of the characters of Sam or Dean Winchester or of Supernatural, but am simply utilizing such for fanworks purposes. All music included is property of the listed artists/bands, and is being shared, again, for fan purposes (and because Sesame Street teaches us sharing is good).

So tempted to post absent for tonight's WoW raid so I can just sleep when I need to. But that of course means not just missing work on Lich King, but also the guild doing the weekly quest and VoA. Argh.

Was surprised to get 2nd with it. I'd been actually feeling of late that maybe I wasn't doing Team Hell a lot of good, and should I rethink participating, but this was a nice little mental boost that I'm doing a little good for the group at least. ♥ There is a game going on that I'm failing at, though D: Fallen phrases, why do you befuddle me so?
whitereflection: (winchesters diner)
Got a wild hair in my further quest to feel not so useless, and decided to make gingersnaps from scratch. Naturally they didn't turn out exactly like gingersnaps, since I had to do substitutions--I don't keep molasses on hand, but read you can use honey instead; and once again I forgot I didn't have ground cloves, so instead of ground cinnamon/ground cloves for the spices to go with the ginger, I used pumpkin pie spice (which is cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, allspice and mace). Also I didn't have quite enough brown sugar, so had to mix in some regular sugar as well. So they've turned out more like honey spice snap cookie things.

Was a massive mess along the way--the recipe said to blend with an electric mixer, but the dough was way too solid when I added the flour. Then turned into a gooey horror when I added a little water. And then it killed my hand mixer, I mean like made it smoke and I had to put it out on the front porch and now it's in the trash. Added extra flour to make it less of a gooey mess, but though I think I added too much, it still remained super sticky and a bit interesting to form into balls and roll in sugar.

But eh, Mom says they turned out okay, and she'd actually like them that way again (though I'd like to make them as proper gingersnaps sometimes, with molasses and the full amount of brown sugar, etc. And without the killing off of a small electrical appliance.) I suppose I should also give myself a bit of credit, since I can't remember the last time I did cookies from scratch. Don't think I've done those as anything but premade break-apart for years, maybe.

In other news--WoW is WoW, Wynn is up another level, am crossing my fingers that we'll soon be rid of an asshole of an intitiate. I'm completely and thoroughly crapping out at writing anything at all, haven't read anything of literary import in weeks/month+ now (pretty much just reading fanfic and manga of late, continuing with Fairy Tail and snooped at Nora at B&N the other day--though [livejournal.com profile] spn_vsCarry On, a Supernatural virtual season is really darned good and has me hooked), and don't even feel like making crappy graphics for challenges. Hooray that they have quick games, so I can still show as participating a little for [livejournal.com profile] spnland (woo, worst participant ever \o/, poor Team Hell). Having minor success getting my sleep slightly more normal, hoping to keep that going.

Feels like time to sample one of the better batches of not!gingersnaps, perhaps with some tea (http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=175633&prrfnbr=198309 Numi Monkey King Jasmine Green, Y/Y?).

and stuff.

Had my usual response to feeling down and useless, and that was OMG MUST BAKE. Thus, apple crisp happened. Because I was indecisive, ended up cobbling together a couple recipes I found online.

Apple part was 3 small granny smith apples (needed to get used, they were old), 1 large granny smith apple, and 1 large...heck if I know. It was pinkish. A Jazz, maybe? Cut into slices and then the slices into chunks. Mixed them with a handful of chopped dried apricots, 1/2 c sugar, 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice, about 2 T lemon juice and 2 T orange juice, and 1/2 tsp vanilla. Topping was 2 packets instant oatmeal, 1 cup flour, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, a small package of chopped hazelnuts, and 1 stick of butter, melted, all mixed together until forming crumbles. Apple mix went into a sprayed 9x13 pan, poured on topping, breaking up the larger crumbles and spreading it evenly. Drizzled on just a little maple syrup. Baked about an hour at 350F. Really turned out well, nice with ice cream and whipped cream. Not runny or liquid at all, and had a real carmel apple thing going for it.

Not much other than that, other than an all-day headache (argh), and managing another couple levels for Wynn in the evening. Oh, and today in [livejournal.com profile] spnland I learned I fail at FML. FML. Har. :p Okay, so one made me eyeroll at it, don't tell anyone shhhhhhhhhhhh. But the rest were good.

JUST TODAY AND THEN TOMORROW IS THURSDAY EEEEEEEEEE. BOYS HOW I HAVE MISSED YOU. Please let there be good brother moments, and not too much heartbreakings.
