  • Car is fixed, and it was a simple, cheap repair \o/ Turns out the first repair actually had solved the problem (ie spark plugs, wires), but spark plugs have the same problem as computer parts like RAM: sometimes new ones are simply bad, and they fail spectacularly very quickly. Which is what happened with one of our new spark plugs; replaced, all is well, though the mechanic noted our muffler is going bad. Not surprising considering the age of the vehicle. At least that's something we can get done without it being an ~emergency~.

Happy Mother's Day to all those on my flist who are or who fill the role ♥ Took Mom out to the Cheesecake Factory at lunch to celebrate, also sent her someecards from us and from the cats (because I am weird that way).

Too much food, though, ugh. Huge meal there today, following a huge meal last night (at a really nice steak/seafood place down on Omaha's riverfront) when the husband and I did dinner out for an anniversary-a-day-late thing. To be honest, I really do eat too much usually--but even for me, ugh, so damned much food. Very much feel like I need to be comatose. -__-

I swear, though, was fine today until about 2pm, then my mood went to crap for no reason. So stupidly grumpy now. Doesn't help that a certain website is being broken again (no, shockingly I'm not referring to this one).

Planted two catnip plants between the front walk and the house yesterday. Hoping we can keep them alive and that they'll grow and spread nicely, fill in that sparse area. Seemed a good plant to do, especially considering we and every freaking friend we have owns cats.

Grump, grump, grump.

So, I'm not very into vampire AU fic, I mean I'll read it, but it's not the sort that really gets me geeking out. But werewolf fic involving the boys (or Jared and Jensen)?  Um. YES. *___* I won't lie, when Pax told me she was writing boys-as-werewolves, my response was :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D and I freaking went sparkle-eyed over every snippet I got to preview.

This just has such gorgeous writing, just wonderful ways of phrasing things. And Dean and Sam are not only very, very Dean and Sam, but they're absofreakinglutely Dean'n'Sam and Sam'n'Dean from the word go, with that incredible soulmate connection that makes me so happy in Show. Then when there's bonding and then...not gonna give it away, but ♥♥♥! I have a thing for bonding and certain other werewolf-type tropes and this just all made me happy, okay? ^___^ This story also gets the special note of making me use the phrase ominously cute to describe certain parts. :3

In other news, have just made dark chocolate-covered frozen kiwi slices (this recipe sans popsicle sticks), and as of last night I'm now hooked on Community. :B The muscle knot that's once again developed in my back/left shoulder area that's making it hard to twist and move my head can GTFO, though.

Guild name seen in WoW: <Seven Inches Unbuffed> Oh, eyeroll. Thirteen-year-old boys, unite. :p

Speaking of WoW, I have...been slightly immersed lately. Finally working on another Horde rogue alt, at last finally one I'm happy with and won't end up deleting for annoyance at appearance (or because of server transferring). Am very much enjoying seeing the post-Cataclysm old world zones finally, as I've wanted to do since the xpac began--interesting to see the visual changes, but also the alterations in quest design. Very much liking so far. But the one thing I really dig about the rogue class, is that no matter what changes, I have no problem understanding and playing the combat spec--something that isn't true for any other class I play. Oddly enough, despite female bloodelves not being my favorite to play, the alt is yet another one of them (my third). Because I am a lame weirdo, in my mind she's sort of a fem!Jared in look, named Samaara because of well, yeah (Samarra was taken, but I like this other spelling better now anyway).

Finally got the Stood In The Fire achievement, but of course on Samaara and not on Akseru like I really wanted. :p But it was neat to see--everything goes cherry KoolAid red, the sky goes black, then half a minute later, bam, everything and everyone's fried by the dragon's fire. That means players, game NPCs, monsters, critters, everything in the area. XD Good times.

Today there was Easter candy, woo hoo \o/ Made deviled eggs (which were awesome, tyvm), and a ham/fresh asparagus/hashbrown casserole that included a rather nice red pepper havarti cheese. And in other food news, Late Night Snack is ZOMFG amazing. I have been remiss in not trying Americone Dream, though, and will be doing so next (pint's already in the freezer \:D/ )

Bah, so need to switch out some icons.

So recently I bought eggs from the little farmer's market I go to (Tomato Tomäto)--the vendor was Honey Creek Farms from a nearby little town in Iowa. No hormones or medications, free range, has the date the eggs are packed written on the carton. I'm unfortunately slow at getting through stuff like eggs, so though I'd bought them close to the package date of 4/1, just tried them today. But even so, holy freaking cats, freshest I've ever had in my entire life. *__* I'm never buying grocery store eggs ever, ever again.  The yolks were the deepest yellow I've seen--practically orange. It reminds me of when my friend Anj went to visit extended family in the Czech Republic, how fresh and quality the food was in their town. Those things were pricey, I won't lie, but ohman, so good. And supporting local vendors is always a plus.

Almost the time of year where the farmer's markets start up downtown and other spots around town on Saturday mornings. I really need to get in the habit of getting my butt ready early and taking Mom and myself there. There'd be even more offerings than that indoor place, and worth dealing with the hassle of crowds of people (I say this because I have to remind myself of it >_>; Eff people, heh.)

Anyway. Blah blah blah. Husband's off at Ampguard (starting doing that again suddenly a couple weeks ago after seeming to not care about it for years) so some WoW time before meeting the gals for dinner out later for Kelly's birthday. Going to visit the other fancy cupcake bakery place in town after \o/ (Jones Bros. hnnnnnnnnnnngh♥).  Because I'm a dork, I keep thinking about how freaking *good* Sam Winchester looked in last night's episode. You go, Jared!♥

Ohmygod, I just looked at the cupcake menu from that place. I WANT ONE OF EVERYTHING. O____O (And holy handgrenades, do I need to visit every day of the week somehow.)

Car repair is a shifter cable, which luckily can be fixed by today or (most likely) Wednesday. It's "inexpensive", which in transmission speak I guess translates to "you're lucky it's only $500".

Sometimes I make things and they turn out okay.

I like how I started out the month intending to write a poem a day. Ahaha.

♥♥♥♥♥ I just. \o/ Freaking awesome fic inspired by a freaking gorgeous bit of Siken poetry. Reflections of the poem are woven into the story so well, and she writes the boys *SO* right--and with such brilliantly snarky banter and roughhousing between them. And I love how the snark is perfectly *them*, like tradition, the way they've always been--then becomes like a mask to hide the thing developing between them, and then shows the blend the old and the new of their relationship. This made me grin and snicker and laugh and want to draw hearts on things. And leave an overly long comment. (Again. ^^; ps Carhenge! \o/)

In other news, nearly set the oven on fire again. I dunno. I guess using two cookie sheets on the same rack screwed up air circulation so the thermostat wasn't reading right, and it just kept blasting hotter and hotter--nearly charred the parchment paper and the food thereon. Only realized something was wrong because of the smoke alarm, though it wasn't smokey at all (the heat, I guess?). Who knows. I suck. (Though I at least succeeded at break-apart cookies and nearly from scratch carbonara pasta). In other other news, I seriously freaking suck at a computer game. It is pathetic how badly so. Just makes it feel worse, not feeling truly comfortable, knowing that those certain few are judging me. I just..why do I make such *stupid* mistakes, and give them ammunition?

Also, love this song, so so much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wAS8JUP39I http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858671084/

Oh, comfort food, why do you do this to me. Sudden and massive craving for Chef Boyardee Beefaroni. So gonna end up with heartburn, I just know it. The peppermint Little Debbie Swiss Cake Roll probably won't help either. Self, honestly, going to grow up someday maybe?

Started work on a masterlist. It's actually going to take some time to put together, which kind of surprises me. I guess I should expect it, since I've been posting off and on for different fandoms since 2003. Most's still Supernatural or influenced by such, though.

Didn't realize I was having an insomnia attack when I was distracted by working on that last night, though. Didn't even notice the time until it was near 4:30am. Oops.

Good god, what I would do to go to a SPN con. :/ Never could afford one, though. I don't even think I could afford a fan con like Wincon, though man, I would die to go.

Made http://www.guidingstars.com/expert-chef/moroccan-pork-loin-and-athenian-couscous-salad/ yesterday and ohman, sogood! Only tweak I did chopping a bag of dried apricots, simmering them in a little extra vegetable broth, and tossing them in with the sliced onions under the pork loin chunks. Seriously, so good! *__*

In addition to http://livingflame.tumblr.com/, I also have http://thingswhatareawesome.tumblr.com/, but really that second one's just going to be for reblogging purposes. Tumblr makes me lose time like I've been kidnapped by aliens. >_< Yest afternoon, somewhere between 3-5pm just *disappeared*.

The way to do things: take a nice bowl of microwaved-from-frozen steelcut oatmeal, triple berry--nice and healthy. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top, stir in. I am such an awesome adult.

Shoveled today, so the WiiFit can go suck it (though tbh I haven't done anything with it since Thursday--it's going to bitch at me when I use it again). We have so, so much less snow than last year's many feet, just ~6 inches this time, though another 3-ish due today, but it still sucks just as much to dig out.

Have been a withdrawn hermit lately, apologies. I've been reading flist stuff at least, I promise.

Sat out of the guild's first official raid night last Wednesday (where they got first kills on Magmaw and Omnitron), but got to be a part of the first kills of Conclave of Wind and Wyrmbreaker last night. Woo, us \o/

Still alive o/ Apologies for being kind of absent of late, but you know *hand wave*. Mood, hidey from holiday stress, then busy with family stuffs, same old. ♥ to those that left holiday wishes on my last post, and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lady_eilthana for the v-gift :D ♥

Kept it really quiet Christmas Eve, for the most part. Had managed to finish all holiday prep (though the husband's idea of holiday prep seems to be toss things together at the last minute, rather than my stress about it for over a month, yet we both get stuff done about the same time. Hum.). Person in my guild continued to be the cause of ~issues~ so I played on unguilded alts that day to not have to deal with him (the situation is currently being dealt with), and thus finally got to see all the goblin and worgen starting areas and storylines. Won't be doing anything more with the one worgen alt, but I like my goblin priest (aiming to go shadow, of course), and she's kind of cute--named her Akathisia. I stumbled across the word recently on Wikipedia and it is strangely awesome.

Christmas we spent the afternoon with extended family at my cousin's place in Lincoln. Tons and tons of food--between that and our own holiday candy, have been overdosing on sugar for days now. Dad's still dealing with a lot of pain from his shoulder surgery awhile back (he was manic from the pain meds Christmas Eve evening when we were at his and my stepmother's place for gifts), and now it's worse because he took a fall on the ice while walking up the street to my cousin's place. He landed on the plastic cooler he was carrying under one arm and had to be taken to the ER where they found he'd cracked a rib. So he's on even more pain meds now, but still in a lot of pain. It really rattled my cousin (though her wife was just stellar at taking care of my Dad and getting him driven over to the Emergicare place, staying with them while they waited) and my aunt. Said aunt is doing well, all things considered (continuing chemo and such), and ended up weepy for another reason when her adopted daughter's longtime boyfriend called and asked my aunt permission to marry her. It sort of felt like some sort of Lifetime sitcom. :p (Though it's better than Mom's side of the family, who, while there's the "normal" ones, the "not normal" ones have become even more freakish and facepalmingly Jerry Springer recently).

Christmas evening was just Mom, the husband, and I back at home doing our gifts and decompressing from a day of omg-too-many-people. From friends I got a book and a 20-sided die that flashes when it rolls 20 (they gave the same to James, unfortunate since I'd gotten him the same thing :p ), got a couple of frames Mom did up with more cat photo collages to go with the ones she'd already hung up in the kitchen, some poetry compilations, holiday-themed socks, and a few cookbooks from another aunt. James gave me a gift card for the iTunes store and a new keyboard, which even though it's just another standard Apple keyboard is so YAY. Had been so frustrated at how bad some of the keys were sticking where that old drink spill had gotten worse again. Also got a little geeky card game, cocoa, and tons of candy. Another friend gave the husband and I both the WoW Li'l Ragnaros pet for in-game, though we still need to activate the codes for that. Got given the Sam & Max games off Steam as well as getting called Christmas Day by Aaron, too, which was way cool even if I eventually had to rush off, and I'm so going to have fun poking at the games (ty again :) ).

Sunday was D&D, the husband's alt game, in which my barbarian missed nearly every will save roll (he's got a mighty 1 in it currently), and the module's encounters demanded a freaking *ton* of said rolls. Lost count of the numbers of times he was stunned or feared (including the one where he ran away and then back for a total of six rounds :| ) The rest of the week should be quiet-ish, though several friends are coming over Friday evening for our gift exchange, and I'll do dinner for them (all easy stuff, though, just heat-up type things). Then Saturday another friend will have us over all afternoon/evening for a very-extended New Year's movie "night", followed by the other D&D game next Sunday.

Other than that, have tabs of fic open that I'm hoping to get to soon, and am still trying to decide if I'm ever going to get caught up on the comments I've procrastinated on since November. :B We shall see. Anyway, HI. Glad to see people have been having decent holidays ♥

Got to see my brother and his gf, though. Went out with them, Mom, and the husband to this hole in the wall Chinese place that for some reason everyone else in my family loves. Was a cool chance to catch up with them at least. Even if they did taunt me with the fact that there's tons of dim sum places out in Denver.

Wonder how I'm gonna get the day's writing in tomorrow. Have James' D&D game during the day (still need to write up a barbarian), then the Thanksgiving get together at our friends' place in the evening. Might have to resort to writing crap haiku during the game or something.

J.K.'s Solstice Hard Cider (http://organicscrumpy.com/) is damned amazing, especially warmed. Tasty, I say, taaaaaasty. I almost never drink, and one reason is because it's hard to find alcoholic things where I like the flavor. This was awesome. Bought another bottle at the store today. :| I rationalized it as it's only going to be around a short time during the holidays. Split the one last night with mom, but she only wanted a small amount, so I ended up with about 2/3 the bottle. I'm heavy and was quite full thanks to so much foods, but yeah, I was very...mellow. :p (But truly, so very tasty.)

Re: WoW. Finally got my dk to 80, so I can ignore him until I level his alchemy come Cata. Am continuing to fall so hard for the new Orgrimmar. And ohman, I am kind of stunned at the detail they put into the female goblins' hair (no pcs yet, but the npcs all have the new appearances). It really puts the hair on other female toons to shame--really hoping the hairstyles get shared via barbershop with belves and nelves at the least.

Definitely avoided shopping areas today, though got a good number of gift things ordered online. So I'm doing much better than many previous years. And it's past Thanksgiving so I can allow myself to listen to my Christmas music YAY \o/ Happy happy.

Poetry for mininano/wrisomifu, the sort that could be read as original but is really about Dean&Sam. :p

So last evening the husband, the mother, and I went to http://www.valaspumpkinpatch.com/ and it was ~awesome~. We got there kind of on the late side, so it got dark super-quick and was really cold, but we still had time to wander through several delightfully cheesy attractions/"haunted houses"/kitschy shops, feed bunnies (BUNNIES \o/), and watch the pig races (pig! races! \o/ okay, there were duck races, too, sort of :p ) And food omg food food--chili in a breadbowl, and it was free hotdog night, plus now they have their own brand of bottled, microbrewed rootbeer, then we split a turkey drumstick and a funnel cake with sugar and cinnamon and omfg food \o/ Bought stuff to bring home, too, because that's how it's done :p Two types of fudge (salted nut roll and chocolate pumpkin), chocolate pumpkin bread and muffins (spiced pumpkin and pumpkin seed).

It wasn't crowded at all, and even though there were bonfires going, there weren't nearly so many as other years, so the smoke wasn't so choking. Everything just smelled and felt so fall \o/ T'was awesome. Nice to have a night like that, especially since I hadn't gotten Mom there in years (last year it snowed so stupid-early in October, and the year before I was a horrid person who procrastinated).

PS. Actual joke from the pig race :D
