Darker Pieces of the Night, by [livejournal.com profile] zuben_eschamali, for [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang, J2 AU, NC-17, 16,488.
Inspired by some absolutely *amazing* art. A superhero AU, with winged!Jared (winged! Jared! ♥), an interesting world that felt unique, h/c, and intimate, personal explorations of the characters and the relationship that developed between them that you don't tend to find in a story about one or both as superheroes. I was so excited to read this after hearing about it earlier last week, and is one of those fics that I just *enjoyed* reading, that pressed so many of my buttons just right. Definitely on my reread list.

In other "news"...am indulging in night elf therapy in WoW again. Used to do this a lot in vanilla and BC, where when down or stressed, I'd honestly crave to start yet another night elf alt. Teldrassil is still my favorite starting area (sorry, Eversong Woods, you're a close second), and well, I can't help but feel that night elf female is still my favorite to play, as much as I love blood elves and draenei (sorry, Ak, but Sasukeh/Sasuke will always be my first main ♥). Though maybe that's colored by nostalgia. I just...it's so pretty, and the music's so soothing and beautiful, and I dunno. Nostalgia, like I said. Reminds me of when I fell in love with WoW back during the open beta for the original release. And it's familiar, so it's soothing like that, too. She's a warrior with long, dark blue hair named Yared, which may be the Hebrew form of Jared. :p Yeah, I know, I'm lame.

I am tired from D&D. Wtf. Self, could you get more pathetic? (Or maybe I'm just tired, yeah, I know, cold + recent sleep deficit, but still) Anyway, feeling a little better about Bebop. Still down, but I know that just takes time. I need to post a pic of him, will have to look at what photos Mom and I have saved.

Not anything fanfiction-related this time.

Little more building backstory with the superhero AU.

Sort of not feeling well, so indulging myself with a short bit of under-the-weather Jared and J2 h/c.

Background/history/world-building, I dunno. Not very interesting/good, but at least it's something.

more for the superhero au )

Flu shot yesterday, whee. Felt like someone had punched me in the arm but hard, and still is sort of sore today. Also was the husband's birthday, so we had dinner at Red Lobster and some of the cheesecake my brother and his gf had sent him for a gift.

Yessssssssssssssss, [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu is a go for 2010. \o/ For those not in the know:

(Write Something, You Miserable Fuck), a writing group for embittered underachievers who enjoy the company of same, is gearing up for another month of woe and despair! To join, all you need to do is commit to writing (original fiction, fanfic, angry screeds, non-fiction, your memoirs, ransom notes, your thesis, poetry, graffiti - anything!) for at least ten minutes each day for the entire month of November. And you are permitted - required even! - to complain bitterly about every single word.

So excited! \o/ Not sure whether to do both it and [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo or bow out of mini_nano, but I probably could since I know for a fact I'd be writing past 10 minutes to get my goal of 100 words each day. Just would mean checking in at two comms, but that seems easy enough. Goddang, but [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu fits my attitude *exactly*. This challenge is like made for me. \o/

If into that sort of thing, they're doing signups by invite until midnight on Oct. 31, also known as tomorrow. But those wanting invite have to comment at either:

As a nod to '42' day yesterday, listened to my CDs of the Hitchhiker's Guide BBC radio productions. Phases one and two, that is. I remember in college a buddy I tabletop gamed with telling me about listening on the radio, and him giving me cassette tapes he'd made of the broadcasts. It's a weird sort of 'comfort' thing.

Have signed up for [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo. Only the bare minimum, 100 words per day. The amount of words won't be what I have to struggle with, but the concept of doing so for 30 days. I've never written for 30 days in a row before. If I'm "up", it won't be difficult, but the challenge will come when I'm feeling like I have been for the last few days, very low and/or tired. Hoping to see if it can be a sort of training exercise for developing writing habits in general and not just when I'm 'sparked', and to learn to work through bad mood swings.

Moment of SPN fan pride--have gotten two of my longtime WoW friends to start watching. One's Netflixing, so she's only on like the second disk of 1st season, but seems to be enjoying it. The other has just finished s2 and is about to start 3--and said while he liked it, it was the episode "Heart" that made him go "Damn, this is good." This makes me full of fan happiness.

[livejournal.com profile] daily_wincest, [livejournal.com profile] dailyjsquared, and [livejournal.com profile] j2_recs have been giving me some happy. Sad that some are comms that have been around awhile and I'm just discovering them.

'The Price of Justice' by [livejournal.com profile] keerawa, PG, 6.03 coda, 300 words. So very good and insightful. Her grasp of characterization is just so amazing.
