eff endings, it's beginnings that suck

Flu shot yesterday, whee. Felt like someone had punched me in the arm but hard, and still is sort of sore today. Also was the husband's birthday, so we had dinner at Red Lobster and some of the cheesecake my brother and his gf had sent him for a gift.
Not going to work on any one thing, but develop various ideas that've been in my head, depending on what I'm in a mood for each day. Most will probably be J2 AU stuff, but knowing me, SPN Sam/Dean might eventually sneak in.
Most of my ideas, honest to deities, seem to revolve around Jared or Sam with wings. I'm so fucking lame.
I think I'll post each day's fragments, just for my own archiving/keeping myself accountable.

Day 1 11/1/10 11:56-12:24
Jared remembered when he used to like fall. When it meant seeing friends at school again, the start of the football season, his Mama starting to make chili every week, making leaf piles in the backyard with his brother and sister and then destroying those piles as they flopped into them, mobbing the streets on a crisp Halloween night with the other kids in the neighborhood, days growing shorter but more family gatherings coming to fill the evenings as Thanksgiving neared and Christmas waited in the wings.
He shivered, perched on the edge of the brick building--some old warehouse converted into apartments and condos he couldn't afford--looking down on the bridge below. Fog was rolling in, veiling the darkened streets in a misty haze. It'd been drizzling all night, leaving his clothes damp and clinging and the exposed skin of his shoulders and arms pebbling in the chill, his shaggy hair hanging in clumps and sticking to his face. Fall in New Bells City meant cold and spitty rain, dim, grey days followed by chill, dank nights--and then winter would come and bring the rainy season, and with it the wind.
And Jared had chosen this as his home, as opposite of San Antonio as any place could be. He was new in town, but even once he'd been there for awhile, there wouldn't be hanging out with friends, wouldn't be holidays with family, wouldn't be warm, stick-to-your-ribs meals with his Mama and Dad and Jeff and Meg.
Jared had come to New Bells City to work, and that was all.
Standing up, he stretched, arms held down by his sides and wings unfurling massive and wide to either side of him, and he felt the muscles of his back burn and strain slightly in response. He stepped off the edge of the building, swooping in a wide arc down toward the far-away ground below before catching an updraft and soaring high into the night sky.
His new city stretched out before him. Maybe it already had a team of superheroes, but that didn't mean there weren't still things left for Jared to do. This would be his first patrol in this place; it was time to explore and find out what those things were.
New Bells City had a new defender. Even if its people didn't know it yet.

Date: 2010-11-01 09:17 pm (UTC)Do you mind if I keep working on this idea? I'm guessing/hoping whatever similarities are minor XD; And I'm pretty sure I'll end up with something very different once I work with it more, even if undoubtedly not near as good of writing as your work. Though I do have other ideas I can switch to, too.

Date: 2010-11-01 10:13 pm (UTC)Also, your writing is gorgeously evocative and vivid and you should totally go on with it. There's nothing that sucks more than to come up with an idea and then get scooped before you can post it. I'm just highly amused. :)
ETA: Since protecting-the-city!Jared was my artist's suggestion, and I probably got winged!Jared from

Date: 2010-11-02 06:55 pm (UTC)Mutants...yeah, well. ^^; Such a common concept for a superhero thing, though, so I guess it can't be helped. I blame comics and the tabletop RPGs I used to do in college and after for that sorta thing sticking in my head. No fear of heights, though! XD; (I have to admit, the origin for winged!Jared turned hero in this is actually based on a character I played in one of those RPGs, a short-lived game I'd always wished had lasted longer.)
Wowsers, you say nice things, though ♥ I'll have to use that for motivation, get my brain out of its "I don't wannaaaaaa" whiny funk.
