Put it off too long, tired, couldn't think of crap. Just played around with a concept in my head of a Sam and Dean World of Warcraft-based AU I've pondered for awhile, where Sam's a deathknight and Dean's a hunter. Just a scene dealing with new in-game events as it transitions into the Cataclysm expansion. Deathwing cometh. :p
Day 23 11/23/10 5:14-6:01
Deep within the mountains of Ironforge, the lowing horns of war resounded, echoing mournfully through the city's cavernous halls.
In the bar, all heads raised and turned toward the sound, and Sam's wide-eyed gaze met his brother's arched-eyebrow look even as someone in the crowd muttered, "What in the--"
One of the city's guards stumbled in the door, accompanied by the sounds of more booted feet rushing past. The ruddy dwarf staggered as another rumbling earthquake shock shook the city. "Stormwind!" he shouted, "Stormwind's burning!"
"By the Light!" the tavern-keeper's outcry was nearly lost in the cacophany as the entire room exploded with sound, and the guard gestured frantically, going bright red in the face as he struggled to yell over the noise.
"...a dragon!" Sam finally managed to make out, the din finally ebbing enough for the Ironforge soldier to be heard. "I said, it was attacked by a dragon! One section's been destroyed and the rest is burning--even the gates to the city themselves. And word's comin' that some parts of the very continents themselves are breakin' apart!" As the roar of the bar's patrons talking and shouting increased in volume again, the guard raised his axe in one hand. "By the orders of King Magni himself, all who can fight, to arms! To arms!"
The uproar in the tavern was deafening, raised voices mixing with the sounds of chairs being knocked over and dishware rattling and breaking, as guards, adventuerers and even citizens rushed after the departing dwarf. Sam set down his tankard as, across from him, Dean stood. He knew without even having to ask that they would next be heading to the stables where Dean's wolf, Impala, and their horses were being kept.
Another, stronger, rumble of the earth shook the mountain around Ironforge, and both brothers simultaneously reached out to steady the other as the city quaked. Sam couldn't help a quirk of his lips at Dean's annoyed look. Didn't matter how long they fought side-by-side; Dean never fully let go of the older brother role.
"Grab all of gear from the bank, I assume?" Sam asked as they broke into a run outside the tavern.
Dean nodded, glaring as they passed yet another doomsayer cultist shouting propaganda about the coming of the end of the world. "Doubt we'll be back here for awhile. I've got a feeling this is going to be big."
*
Big didn't even begin to describe what had happened. They soon discovered that everything, everything had changed, even the very face of Azeroth itself.
