and other lines

Have had poetry on the brain some lately, thanks to a couple blogs and poetry communities I ran into because of some people in the Spn fandom. Which made me think of old favorites, and so was rereading Stephen Crane's 'War Is Kind', and ran into this one from the same volume. Gives me John (& Mary) Winchester and the yellow-eyed demon vibes:
(from War Is Kind and Other Lines)
XIX
The chatter of a death-demon from a tree-top
Blood -- blood and torn grass --
Had marked the rise of his agony --
This lone hunter.
The grey-green woods impassive
Had watched the threshing of his limbs.
A canoe with flashing paddle,
A girl with soft searching eyes,
A call: "John!"
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Come, arise, hunter!
Can you not hear?
The chatter of a death-demon from a tree-top.
***
But mmm, 'War Is Kind'. (I @ http://theotherpages.org/poems/crane01.html) Mmmm. Dang but I still love that one like crazy.
