So, yeah, things are things. But what is worthy of note is that I got an invite to the Wrath of the Lich King beta (yay, Blizzcon 2007). Got that in my email night before last, did the download, set up the installation yesterday morning.
Only have had a very small bit of time to check it out. And I could not help myself, I first thing checked out the new deathknight stuff. It's funny, it looks like you start out in the exact same area--but alliance and horde are separated. Maybe it's like separate instance servers.
But oh my...it's....so...*COOL*. Naturally, one of the first things I've noticed is music, and this expansion's soundtrack imo is going to be phenomenal. The visuals are gorgeous, and tend to distract me from trying to analyze things on a technical basis--too much constant "oooooohomgsquee!". And it's incredibly creepy, perfectly so. And wow, what a way to start out, as minion to *the* villain. At the least, they start you out with good gear, and the early quests (which seem to be cake) net you great gear for the level. The mount you get is cool, and OHHHHHHHH golly, they picked up on the thing that I actually loved in AQ: creepyasfuck whispers from the villian. Both text and vocal--and the vocal ones are *stellar*. Whomever did the voice and the effects they added to it are absolutely goosebump-inducing.
At first I was sucking bad as a deathknight, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. And I'm liking what I see out of a couple of the talent trees, frost and blood. The rune inscription intrigues me as well, though I haven't tried many of the options--looks like they aren't requiring reagents yet, wonder what those will be like.
Also did copy Ak over to the test server. Haven't done anything with him other than get him to one of the Northrend zones, which looks as impressive as when I saw a glimpse at Blizzcon. I'm going to need to start a screenshots folder on my webspace, I think.
I must admit, I was looking forward to WotLK, but now I'm *REALLY looking forward* to WotLK. :P Even if they're going to force the stupid spirit stat down everyone's throats til we gag. And even if what they're doing with hunters intrigues me more than what they're doing with warlocks (not to mention deathknights omg deathknightsdeathknightsdeathknights ^o^♥ )
Downside: Been doing much better at getting to bed at a slightly more normal time lately--but not last night. :|
