whitereflection: (PissedKenshin)
I. Hate. My. ISP. I. *DESPISE*. My. ISP. ARGH.

Yeah, more difficulties on that front. Last evening the cable modem started losing connection oh, about every 2-10 minutes. I think between 7:30 and 9 I had to reset it somewhere around 15-20 times? I'm not sure because I truly lost count. We kept testing all evening, past midnight to see if a lower number of users on the server would help, but it didn't. Still having the same problem this morning. And it's not like we're doing anything high stress or odd--I'd just be clicking through web pages, like looking at multiple days of a webcomic. One minute it'd be fine, then suddenly it'd be unable to load any pages, or find the email server. Blink, gone.

I can't describe my level of pissed with Qwest/Tconl right now. I keep remembering all the problems we've had with them in the past--my problems with them getting my info and billing right early on; the three or four times we lost phone service and they had to fix it; the ongoing, persistent, neverending problems with our cable modem losing connection with the server. Then I think about how we've had firewall problems--like James being suddenly unable to access Blizzard's servers for Diablo II anymore, or my inablility to ever do any sort of file transfers...and I wonder if that's somehow connected.

It's rather coincidental timing that Cox was going door to door yesterday, offering 50% off phone, cable, and ISP costs for a year if we switch. I'm seriously thinking about it. I mean, I hate Cox, but that would save some $$, and their costs are so similar when at regular price--with the added benefit of how friends we have who use them say their stuff *works* consistently. And when it doesn't, their techs come out right away--where Qwest's make you wait for them to call back anywhere between 4-24 hours, and *then* then schedule an appointment (only during work hours >< ) for a person to come out.

I still haven't forgiven Cox for their suspicious business practices back when we were on dialup and got their phone service. Strange how our 56k modems that worked at around 48-51k before we switched suddenly wouldn't work any better than 28k for the entire time we had Cox phone--but went back up to normal when we finally got back to USWest phone service. Very strange, considering Cox was marketing their new cable modems at the time, and were always comparing how much faster they were than 28k modems. Hmmm... But...but it sounds like people are basically happy with them now. Switching would be a bargain, and we'd be away from the Qwest/Tconl services that have sucked so goddamned bad... I do have to think about it. Got a bit under two weeks to think, before the discounting offer from Cox expires. But man, I hate to switch my home email *again*...I just dunno.

Anyway, after struggling with the cable modem for nearly two hours last night, I finally got my airplane tickets to go to AX purchased. Had to pay just a bit more than I would have liked, but it's about average cost. The times are a bit wonky, though. Need to email Aaron and let him know what they are, as I'd certainly understand if that would make it too difficult for them to pick me up/drop me off. There'll be shuttles and taxis and stuff. I wonder how early the hotel will let us check in, or if they'd store my bags somehow if I want to do stuff before checkin. And I'm wondering why AX hasn't confirmed my registration. I signed up, sent my check, and the check was cancelled--but I've received no confirmation or paperwork from them. And I tried emailing them about it a couple weeks ago, now, but they still haven't gotten back to me. *sighs* Argh.

And Travelocity's website sucks ass. I should have just stuck with trying Expedia, as that's what I ended up using to book my flight, anyway.

Anyway, whatever, done bitching. To distract myself last night, I did something I should have done *months* ago: watched the One Piece DVD Andrew sent me waaaaaaay back when. God, I love that show. Absolutely love it. It was a great reminder of what a goofy and yet adorable series that can be. Most people don't associate a shounen show with being charming, but it really is. I mean, the end of that story arc just really...*gets* a person, you know? And the op/end credits are danged addictive. I need to beg mp3s, now. ^^; *flails*

Been making a resolution to watch all of the anime people have been giving me this past year or so, as I start working on the ton of new stuff Nix gave me. It's sad how I haven't done so already. I must seem like the most unappreciative dork in the work. Of teh suck. I want to finish FLCL in the next couple of days, then start on CCD(CGT). I know it'll bring me down, but I even want to watch XTV so I can say I've done so. Then there's that live action GTO Sue sent, the bit of Love Hina Tokkan gave me, and so on... *God*, I suck. >< I will work Scryed into all that, though--I just *have* to watch that asap.

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh. *FLAILS* James just called, and Qwest is coming over to replace the cable modem again this afternoon and so some tests. Which is fine. But what galls me is how they say our problems now are probably due to a malfunction of the modem due to a power surge from the thunderstorms recently--except that I have whole house surge protection from our power company! ><;;; It covers electrical, phone, cable, *and* cable modem, so how the hell would a power surge even get to the modem to mess it up? Especially since we didn't get any close strikes or direct strikes. Qwest/Tconl is *so* full of shit. I sincerely doubt the whole house surge protection was so weak or selective as to allow a surge from a distant lightning strike through that would *only* have affected the modem, nothing else.

God, Qwest/Tconl is of teh suck. I am of teh suck. Wednesdays are of teh suck. ARGH.
