Date: 2010-10-06 05:20 am (UTC)I want to start working on my 10s. I also want to kill the LK on 25-man normal. But my whole guild has apparently decided to just not fucking show up for raids. So we recruit more, except on this realm, the talent pool SUCKS (srsly), and there are SO MANY GUILDS who claim to be "raiding" guilds, so we end up having to train/gear semi-new raiders from the first four in ICC25. In the meantime, more old raiders get sick of waiting/burned out and quit/leave, which means we have more raid spots to fill. Rinse, repeat.
It's very annoying when I know I'm the kind of player who can learn a fight in 2-3 tries max. I feel like (kind of know, but that sounds so fucking egomanical) that me and my four-five best friends are too good for this realm. But it's hard to just up and leave, too, doubly so when your boyfriend's the GM. -.-
OH HEY HOW ABOUT I SPEW MY WOW EMO ALL OVER YOUR POST IS THAT OK?
GRATS LOL XD

Date: 2010-10-06 02:49 pm (UTC)But absolutely no worries about WoW emo or venting here. XD Seriously, I *definitely* understand. That's exactly why this group of us formed Woken Too Soon back at the start of summer. We've dealt with the exact same experiences you have with 40man and then 25man raiding, and it's just been so fucking awful.
I think the only reason we've finally gotten a good, solid group of people is because we've managed to find a good group of friends between two servers. Half of us got to know each other over on Hellscream in a guild that was going to shit, then followed one person who found a really good 25-man guild over on Eldre'Thalas. Of course, then that guild went to shit, too. But with the announced changes regarding equalizing 10 and 25 man raiding situations in the xpac (ie the loot ilevels, the shared lockouts, etc), we decided to just split off and form a 10man guild on our own.
It was like, why not, you know? Because what we'd been seeing over and over is that it always seemed like in 25s, that you ended up with about 10 good people that actually gave a shit and tried, and the rest hangers-on that promised and never delivered. So why not just take the good 10, and be done with it? So we had the approx. 5 of us from Hellscream, and another handful of good people that we'd gotten to know on Eldre'Thalas, which combined for a solid crew. It's taken a bit of time admittedly, and we were honest to god taking puggers at first. But then we brought in two friends of a couple of our members. Though we've been having my husband's mage alt with and he's a good, solid player, but come Cata he's promised to raid lead for his alliance guild.
We don't quite have the roster we fully want yet, because we're at the point if a person or two can't make it, we're too short to do anything. But we're already setting up for recruitment--though as you obviously well know, there's the exact situations you describe with there being already too many guilds and too little talent on a server. So, yeah, it's all about cross-server recruiting. It's an absolute must. I think there's still a couple of our old friends from our E'T 25-man guild that we wouldn't mind having with us, but we're not the sort to poach--unless they come to us expressing an interest.
I definitely understand the hard to leave thing, when you have strong ties like you do to the guild you're in. I think the reason the group of us were able to make the move to E'T and then split off into our own guild was our only strong ties were to each other, as well as our similar goals. But cross-server recruiting might be the way for your guild to go, to get the talent from other places. I can't recall all the sites that we used to advertise on, but I know my buddy will be setting that up again soon, and I can give you the list of places when he does. Even if not for use now, for Cata when people are psyched and raring to raid again (because it is definitely end of xpac burn-out time again).
But something to consider, is if your group is willing to do 10man instead of 25man raiding. Because it seems really similar to our situation of about 6-7 of you that are truly good and committed, as well as being friends. Finding about 5 more who'll give 100%, be reliable, and stick around just seems a lot easier, even if it'll still require some recruitment.
I have to admit, none of our crew is perfect, especially me. But we're definitely focused on progression, and willing to do the best we can. And yeah, we have a few who're weaker links like on reliability, but we're willing to call each other out on it. Though we have a GM and a raid lead, because it's a small group of people that have known each other for a long time and get together well, we have a lot of shared responsibility and shared input. Anyone who half-asses it will and already has gotten called out on it, and will continue to do so. :D There definitely won't be the putting up with bullshit that drug our 25man guilds down.
Augh, shutting up noooooooooooow ^^;

Date: 2010-10-06 02:55 pm (UTC)My boyfriend's pretty adament about staying though, and I don't want to pursue my own happiness ingame at the detriment of his. And I certainly don't want to sabotage his guild by "stealing" 4-6 of the only remaining, active members, lol. Right now I'm trying to find a compromise which works for both of us. Just... I get so sad I have the skill, the gear, the knowledge to get my drake, but not 9 other people who are able and/or willing to do the same. D:
At least I've found a surprising enjoyment in the game over grinding reputation and fishing. I think I mentioned I HATE fishing before. Apparently I don't, anymore. I'm like one or two achievements from Salty now, lol.

Date: 2010-10-06 03:22 pm (UTC)And oh god, I know what you mean about PUGs--on more than one occasion, some of our folks doing 25 pugs have run into groups that have fallen apart before even getting *Marrowgar* down. I remember one guy boggling when the pug he was in fell apart and he'd not even gotten saved to a RaidID. For awhile PUGs seemed to at least get the first 6 bosses down, but now it's almost impossible to find a group that just gets four, even though things have gotten easier as the ICC buffed maxed out. It's why I am pretty adamant about not pugging. I like the people in my guild, but I hate pretty much everyone else on my server. ^^; Some of our folks actually find amusement in running with a bad pug just for entertainment purposes, but man, I can't find that sort of thing funny. I just end up wanting to hit things.

Seriously, I never want to see this toon for real, so I can forever keep the mental image of Donald from Dark Legacy Comics in my head for him. :D

Date: 2010-10-06 07:17 pm (UTC)You see, this is where I would normally make some smarmy comment about how I actually am, but I feel that it would be a bit much considering that I'm the one who fell off the damn Lich King platform during transition from phase 2 to 3 while doing the achievement kill like a fucking nub so I should probably leave the unwarranted bragging out of this. :P
And you're way harder on yourself than you need to be! You know you're awesome!
