First of all, let me say that anyone and everyone who has at least a passing interest in the works of Hayao Miyazaki *needs* to see Spirited Away. I mean that. SEE IT. I was blown away by Spirited Away (^^), and though I'm being silly, I truly mean that. It it gorgeous. It is beautiful. It is fascinating. It is enchanting. It is...gods, it is so much. SEE IT. The backgrounds, the animation, the character designs, the story, aaaaaaah, I could go on and on. But I don't want to too much here, for fear of spoilering. But if you can get a copy, do. It's so damned worth it.

Heh, other than that, we watched that bit of Yugioh that Katherine brought, and the US dub is as horrid as I thought. ^^ But it's actually kinda fun in an extra cheese sorta way. And Katherine, Kelly and I were already talking of what cosplaying we could do from it. I love the way their coats, especially Kaiba's trenchcoat seemed to be in 'blown by the wind' position permanently. ^^

Then...Gravitation. *han-YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN sighs* We only watched 1-11, of course, but I completely, utterly, and totally fell in love with that show again (should I add absolutely in there too? ^^ ) It was like watching it for the first time--I hadn't remembered that the animation was actually quite good, and done with some really nice detail. I mean, a wisp of smoke, the toss of hair when a certain guitar player was moving about on stage, a reflection in window. So many little touches to the animation and backgrounds that I just never noticed before.

And the characters...it just never hit me before how much personality they all had, how much emotion they could feel and show, how intense their interactions with each other could be. It was just...wow. And I'd always adored Hiro and K, and I just got besotted with them all over again. But I noticed other characters I really hadn't before--Tohma, Tatsuha, Ryuichi...I discovered that I really liked Shuichi after all, and damn if Sakano isn't an incredibly cool guy, flailing fits and all.

And then there's Eiri. ...you know, I hated him back when I first, first saw Gravi. Then I softened towards him. But watching 1-11 last night, knowing what I know about his past, it was like I could see him so much more clearly, like I could understand why those that did the show had him act and talk the way he did. And I truly and utterly fell for him. I *adore* him now. It's like melting completely. *embarassed grin* I can't help it--I just about cried in that episode when *he* was crying. Ah, holy cats, it was cool.

Why didn't I see that before? *scratches head, looks puzzled* Ah well. I just know I can't wait to get that copy of 12 from Moe, so we here can watch that, then gather around my iMac for 13. I know the OAVs are not as good, but we'll then watch those too. Ah, obsessed yet again. I love it. ^^ I just wish there were cels for GraviTV!!! Argh! So many shots of Hiro or K I'd want.

Tho the one thing that really hit me after watching was how very difficult it would be to write Hiro into anything shounen ai or yaoi. His feelings for Ayeka are so very, very strong--I mean, sure he's bi, but how the hell could you write around that sort of relationship? I mean, I know K has Judy and Michael in the manga, but the manga and show at times feel so very AU, for me it'd be easy to write along the anime universe, like K's family simply doesn't exist--just because, well, for having seen only the anime and not the manga, for me they really don't. Eh. *shrugs* Ah well--I still can't stop being interested in the concept of K and Hiro, or Ryuichi and Hiro, or just because I'm the freak I am K, Ryuichi and Hiro together. *shrugs*

Oh, and speaking of writing, after seeing Gravi again, I am convinced that the fanfiction I've seen so far just does *NOT* get these characters right. Especially Eiri. They seem to always write him like he was in the first couple episodes--but by the latter half of the show, he's changing so much. And after what I've read happens in 13, I *know* he's going to be very different in his relationship with Shuichi, in how he deals with other people eventually. What a lot of fic-writers don't seem to realize is that Eiri changes, and he *wants* to change--he finally begins to heal, and I don't think I've seen anyone really write his character like he'd be after the events of 13 as he basically begins to unfreeze and comes back to life.

Eh, but I babble. Let's see...today's been exceedingly boring, but I'm getting stuff done. Dealt with the catboxes ( XP ), laundry, dishes, email and lj stuff...I need to call some people, too. But I gotta work in some practice on Unmei, too. Hm. Oh, and James gets back sometime this evening, so I guess things really are getting back to normal. Such as they are, I guess...

*meep* Nix call! I get to talk to her, eeeeeeee! ^______^

*sighs in a haze induced by mentions of Gravitation*

Um, do you remember a little fic called Orbital Variations? Just curious... what you thought of Yuki in that...

There was a moment at the end of that fic that I wanted so badly to come across, where the gun falls at Yuki's feet, but I don't think it ever hit anyone the way I wanted it to. Hn. ^^;;

Actually I do remember reading it and liking it--but it's been so long, that I've really forgotten a lot about all but the most general details. I think I'm going to have to reread it (would it still be in the Arcadiana archives?).

Especially since at the time I read it I had the most basic familiarity with the characters, knowing almost nothing beyond Shuichi, Hiro, and K (when I first had started watching Gravi, I really, really didn't pay much attention to Yuki)--and I knew squat about Yuki's past. I'm trying to remember when you posted that fic, but I'm thinking I hadn't seen but a few eps of Gravi by then (I can't remember when I finally watched 1-8 back when). Hm... *scratches head* I am going to have to reread it.e

*hugs*

Yep it's on GWA. If you really do decide to reread it, wait until you've seen 12 & 13.

I know you are covered for those eps, but if anything happens, I can make you dupes. I need to check but I think I may have em as fansubs, but I'm not sure about the quality.

Such a wonderful series. *^__^*

Very few folks seem to see the depth that is in the character of Eiri first off, and I agree with you on the fictions, few write him with the changes that started to occur. I've seen a couple of good ones come off the gravific ml, but I basically stay away from ff.net. ::grin::

As to the end of the series, did I neglect to get you the end of it? ::hangs head in shame:: So many things that keep sliding past me in life for well over tooooooo many months. If you don't have them, let me know and I'll bring them with me to AnimeIowa. Eiri progresses in the last eps of the tv series, but to me, even more in the short 2 ep ova. The end scene of that is just "awww".

No cells on the tv series since it was cgi, but there may be on the ova which was standard animation, just would be very, very, rare if exist at all.

This is one series, though, where the manga and the anime aren't that far off, in fact the manga is a bit more crazed. Also the soundstories ::giggle:: Even though I don't understand but a teaspoon of Japanese, those are funny to hear especially with the heavy breathing sessions and there have been some lovely folks that give summaries of them, so I basically can figure out some of what is going on. ::grin::

Yugioh in English makes me shudder, but I do agree with you about Kaiba and his trench. He's another of those badguys that you just sort of can't resist. ^__~ I see that animeniacs.net now has the series in HK subs, so think I'll go with them since you can't get them in anything but dubbed, edited format from F*ing funimation. (Morons! at least put them out in dual language unedited dvd's for those of us that can't stand their attempts at dubbing!)

Till I get around to my email, ttfn ::grin::

Yes, to your email, details in that when I get my desktop system up from maintenance being done right now. ^__~

*extrahugs* First, many apologies for not getting back to this right away. And second, no worries! I think you'd sent me all of what you had of Gravi at the time, both for series and the OAVs (which didn't include 12/13 on tape, but just was missing 12 on the burned CD). But I do have 13 working on my computer--I did test that--and friend Moe is going to be sending me a VHS copy of 12. It will be a bad HK sub, but after Saiyuki and YYH, I can deal with that--especially since I've found a nice little episode synopsis for that bit. :)

Hey, those HK subs of Yugioh would be cool--I mean, the show's got a touch of cheese anyway, so having the subs be a bit goofy sounding would still work. Katherine and I would love to find some copies of those just for the sake of hearing the real seiyuu (after all, the only reason she started watching was because Kaiba was originally voiced by Midorikawa ^^ I've determined that someday I *must* hear him laugh as Kaiba, and see how close it is to the Heero maniacal laugh *grins*) *flails at Funimation* Those ditwads...I know there's been an online petition for them to do a dual language DVD or subs of some sort, but I truly doubt they care enough to pay attention to the petition. :p

Anyway, *hugs*!! Just about a week now! (Yes, I've been doing the con countdown too. ^^ )
