Is there anyone *anyone* out there who can help me get a copy of Gravitation 12 on VHS tape? Please? Please? I'll sell you my soul (tho probably corrupt, if it's even there still), my first born child (tho I'm not gonna have kids...would a cat do?), aaaaanything in trade for this.
The story behind it all:
Once upon a time Hawke was a goddesswonderfulawesome person and sent me all the eps of Gravitation on VHS--except for eps 12 and 13. But she also was rockingawesomecool enough to send me burned CDs with everything but ep. 12.
Ahhhh, the elusive episode 12. Many, many of you know of my quest to get this bastard. Kea has so often tried to send me it by online transfer, and we've cried as my firewall interferes over and over again--and I've cried and raged when I can't get my ports changed so the firewall *doesn't* cause a problem. Then Lemming was a sweetwonderfulgoddess too and sent me a CD that had on it Eps 12 and 13. I was THRILLED! And so I finally set up a time where we here could watch it all (that time being today).
But IDIOT ME, I didn't think to *check* those episodes in advance. Just last night, I go to convert them from avi to mov using my Divx converter program so I can play them on QuickTime. Ep 13 converted beautifully. *Beautifully*. In fact, I even peeked at the ending, and I'm more in love with K and Hiro than ever. *sighs* But 12...
12 didn't convert. There's an error in the file. I can't convert it, I can't play it. So, in essence...after *all that*...
I'm still missing ep. 12.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.
I'm really bummed. I've promised this to everyone here, and I can't deliver. I mean, yeah we're going to watch ep1-11, and wait for me to get 12 so we can then watch 13 and the OAV...but how much longer will it be before I get 12? I mean, it's been so long already, and I keep having problems, and I keep fscking up doing it on computer somehow, and I am *SO* going to beat my head on a wall.
It didn't help that Katherine last night brought over a CD a friend of hers from her Japanese class had given her, with an avi of the Saiyuki-Requiem movie on it (yes! Requiem!!). So we convert it, and the conversion *WORKS*, and we try to open it with QuickTime...and get the message "QuickTime cannot open this file due to a bad public movie atom."
????Whatthehell??? I don't know what that means. I need to email QuickTime techsupport and find out. But for the moment it means we can't play the Requeim movie either. ...but we do have an idea fot that, as it seems to be a good-error free avi file. I just have to email someone I think has a computer file to VHS conversion card, and offer them my soul to convert it for me. Katherine's willing to mail the CD out, if we can get copies made like this--and she's more than willing to let other copies be made for fellow Saiyuki lovers out there, too. I gotta do that email...
*flails* So I'm feeling more pissy and stressed, just because this is yet one more thing that's being complicated to work through. I know it's not the worst, and you all out there have far worse to deal with, *real* problems, not petty things like this. I'm just...frustrated, fried. And disappointed, since I've been waiting to finish Gravi for so damned long. Meh.
One good thing, tho...in updating QuickTime and adding extensions, I somehow got my HubbaHubbaZootZoot AMV to work for the *first time ever*!!! I tested it on a whim, and it finally played, perfectly! XD Katherine got to see it, and just died--I shall show Kelly and Anj this afternoon. Eh, so I guess I'm, what, 1-3? Or something.
Oh, and another happy thing--they fixed the phone last night. Qwest didn't bother to tell me what was wrong, but it must have been an outside problem, as they didn't have to get in the house to repair whatever it was.
...*sudden thought* Oh ick...I have to scoop the catboxes again today. XP Legs are really doing better, but this is still going to cause much pain. Egads. *sigh*
At least one good thing to look forward to today--after what Gravi I can show, and Katherine making us watch this two-part ep of Yugioh (the US dub, it will hurt! Pain! *flails*), I am showing them all Spirited Away. Anj still doesn't know. XD I can't wait. *glompshugs Moe once again*a

Date: 2002-08-10 12:52 pm (UTC)~giggles~ And you have to tell me what people say when you surprise them with Sen. I loooove surprises, wish I could be there. ^__^
Re:
Date: 2002-08-11 11:56 am (UTC)But wow, I know I've always worshipped the detail they use in the animation, but the backgrounds were just *incredible*!! And the way lights would glow at night, and the wonderful character designs--and the way Haku in dragon form moved...*holy *wow**! The folks here were absolutely raving over it--we were all just riveted to the TV, just enchanted. And after it was done, Katherine, Anj and Kelly just kept going on and on about how much they liked it, going over each detail. ^^ It was so damned cool. *hee* I can't wait to see it again! Heh, I may have to run a copy of this and Whisper of the Heart for my mother. :) (BTW, I dunno if Anj was surprised, since I made the mistake of telling Katherine and Kelly--and it didn't take Anj much to figure that it must then be something she'd been wanting to see if she was the only one not told what it was ^^; Ah well, she did love it.)
Secondly, *THANK YOU*!!! This time for offering Gravi 12--yes, I'd love a copy, and I so so *so* worship you, you know. :D :D I don't care about it being HK subbed--after dealing with the horrors of Saiyuki season 2, and YuYuHakusho, I can put up with HK. ^^ Not to mention, I've found a really nice little episode synopsis, so we should be able to follow along fine. Man, I so really, reallly owe you now. Thank you again. *extrahugs*
I hope you're doing ok, and I hope to catch you on AIM one of these days. *many hugs* Take care!

Date: 2002-08-11 02:25 pm (UTC)Finding an anime that takes the time for the little details has always been the biggest score for me. But no one, and this is not just my prejudice speaking, does it like Miyazaki. I watch his works and I see the weeds growing from the curb, the rolling of the grasses in the distance, the cracks in the cement of the steps. And the shadows, his shadows are utterly amazing. These are the details I adore him for. Yes, Haku. ^__^ His dragon form was beautiful but even more I loved how his human form moved like his dragon form. With the same grace and sinuousness. I've seen this movie an obscene number of times already.
Also if you love Miyazaki, I do have all of his movies and would be happy to copy them for you. Or, if you'd like the quality, you can buy them very reasonably in a set on e-bay from a number of vendors from HK. Unlike the HK disc you know, these ones are done beautifully with perfect subtitling. Ah, Omohide Poro Poro... one of my greatest loves of all his movies. I'm trying to find someone to fall in love with this so I can compare notes.
Any whoo.... long tangent. ~grins weakly~ Gravi 12 is yours my friend and if you would like any of the others to go out in the same box, just let me know.
Re:
Date: 2002-08-15 06:17 am (UTC)Anyway, hope things are treating you well. I was looking at our anime collection, and it's a bit scattered. We've got a good sub of Whispers of the Heart (and obviously of Spirited Away now ^^ ). And we've got the commercial Disney sub of Kiki on tape, and the commercial release of Mononokehime on DVD. But I've never seen Omoihide Poro Poro at all--so perhaps I could beg a copy of that? I've always been curious. ^^ *bows*
We've got old copies of things like Nausicaa, Laputa, and Totoro, but they're either unsubbed (from way back when, when those in our anime clubs couldn't get any better) or they're horrid, horrid quality fansubs (you know, those wonderful 15th-generation copies ^^; ). Hm, so...if there's time, and I do mean *if*, could I get copies of those so I could finally have something with good subs? And I realize this is accumulating a lot of tapes--so truly, doing it on 6hr speed is way cool.
And I was pondering something I could send you--and I know Nix and I are very into Gensomaden Saiyuki, and are looking to spread that to others. Much of it is a *horrid* HK sub, but it's still worth it, in our opinions. ^^ Would you potentially be interested in me sending you that? Another thought is, have you seen/own Escaflowne yet? If you haven't/don't, I *will* send you that as well. Other than that, I can harass ya sometime of other stuff I've got like Magic Knight Rayearth, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, etc, to see what you've got and what you might want.
Anyway, I shall talk with you later, hon--take it easy! *extralove&hugs*

Date: 2002-08-10 05:38 pm (UTC)Shini-channn! It's been so long! Y-Y
I'd offer you some Gravitron tapes... but I don't have any... How's about some FLCL...?
I can't believe I havent' talked to you for this long... I didn't even know you had a car crash! Y-Y
Oh bugger... being taken off to dinner, so can't post long... But I have a livejournal now, as you can see, so I'll try and keep in touch!
Re:
Date: 2002-08-11 12:03 pm (UTC)Eh, and don't worry about the car wreck--it's been a week and a half, and I hadn't talked much about it except in lj. I'm doing much better, so though the car's a loss, it all should be ok. :)
*blinks* And are you serious about offering FLCL? I'd *love* to get my hands on that! I wonder if I've got something to offer you in return...I've got a bunch of stuff I could copy for ya, but not sure what you're interested in. I know just recently I've been most into DigiCharat, Excel Saga (have the first DVD), Saiyuki, Silent Mobius, then shounen ai type shows like Gravitation and Yami no Matsuei. Gotta go look at our collection to come up with more... *ponders*
Anyway, hope things are great (and I ph34r your Dad's accordion--too bad he probably wouldn't do Weird Al polkas with it. ^^ )
Later!

Date: 2002-08-12 06:00 am (UTC)And, so you know, you'll probably be saying "El KaBOOOONG!" a few times when you see it also, if you remember that Critic episode... ^.~
So, I'll get burnin tonight (or soon anyways...), and you can send me a e-mail or something so I can know where to send it! ^^
Oh, and you can have a list of animes you have on there, also! ^^V
And, things are doing fine for me... I went to summer school to get my final English out of the way, and got higher on it than I've done on an English for years... DingDingDing!

Re:
Date: 2002-08-11 12:09 pm (UTC)But seriously, I still worship you for having sent me that CD way back when. It's just the peculiarities of software and burning, so no worries. *extrahugs*
But boy, just watching Gravi 1-11 last night...*happy sighs* I fell in love with that show all over again, and I am way more besotted with it than even back when I watched 1-8. It was like seeing it for the first time, and suddenly realizing how damn good the animation actually is, how much personality and emotion the characters have... *goes starry eyed* And I'm in love with a lot more of the characters than I even was back then, too--I always liked K and Hiro, but I really got to liking Sakano, Tohma, and *siiiiiiiiiiigh* I so adore Eiri now. When the hell did that happen? >D Ah anyway, enough babbling.
Hm, tried your cel number earlier, and it wouldn't connect. I should try again.
*hugs* Love you bunches!
