re: iconomicon
Jul. 7th, 2008 10:24 amBecause I am capable of thinking beyond myself once in a while, no really...
Periodically I talk about the
iconomicon guy every once in a while, mentioning eagerly-anticipated updates or that I've yoinked yet more icons. Still remains my favorite icon community, one I check weekly (or a couple times a week at times >_>; ). Occasionally I wander over to his personal journal
jackshoegazer (though I've not had the guts to randomly friend it), as he's one of those rare people that has intelligent, philosophical, creative things to say on life, and I can appreciate that even if I'm not capable of doing such myself.
He's going to have to have a major open heart surgery to counter a blockage of the superior vena cava. Basically, from what he's described, they will be removing a vein from his leg and doing a spiral shunt around the vein. It's covered by his insurance--but he has to travel from Wisconsin to Utah, and the insurance will not cover travel expenses or the hotel stay/food for after he's out of the hospital before he'll be recovered enough to fly home.

He's got a link for donations (above), with the added caveat that those donating 10$ will get a custom icon, those that donate more can get banners/headers, mood themes, etc. So it's a chance to help someone who's one of the good people out there, while getting a little something special back.
Anyway, if anyone out there happens to follow his work and can help, check it out. Normally I don't tend to pimp this sort of thing even if I've given myself, but as I said, he's one of the good ones, and I look up to him. So felt I should spread the word.
