The Vatican is slamming the door on attempts by women to become priests in the Roman Catholic Church. It has strongly reiterated in a decree that anyone involved in ordination ceremonies is automatically excommunicated.

Wow. *Wow*. Way to crack that fucking whip. I mean, because it's so along the lines of apostasy and heresy. I suppose they're likening it to schism, but *still*. The harshest thing they can do to their believers? Honestly. I'm still very confused on faith and spirituality, but this to me seems another example of the way organized religion is screwing up the simple act of being a believer and worshipping. Leadership like this is so why I could never myself be Catholic.

Oh god, I know ;_;.

I'm still a practicing Christian (I'm always a little hesitant to say 'Catholic' because even if I've been confirmed, I'm not really... well, I'm not a star pupil of the formal church ^_-), but I read this and I was just "Gah, why don't they call it a day and just hang a sign over the edge of Vatican City reading TITS OR GTFO".

No freaking kidding. It's so appalling and backwards, and highlights one of my biggest frustrations with things religious--in that the spiritual always seems overshadowed by the secular political stupidity of organized church leadership. And definitely not just pinning that on Catholicism--I was raised/confirmed Lutheran and attended a Methodist church for awhile where a close friend was minister. In both cases I quit because of how things are run/administrated seem to go against the things they allegedly believe in. It made me very cynical on it all, and definitely was the start of doubt for me.
