whitereflectionGoddamn, this vet I use for the cats. I've gone to them since I was in high school taking Spam and Splut in to be seen. Then Felix, and of course the current four.
But holy shit, I am starting to get really fucking fed up. Used to be you'd just go in for the animals' yearly exams and shots. Then they started pushing for periodic "senior wellness" bloodwork, and then also "junior wellness" bloodwork. That periodic became them wanting to do it every year (I tend to cave and do every other on the healthy ones, yearly on the really old/chronic condition ones like Crystal or Bebop).
But now when updating me on how Tink's dental went, the vet started talking about bringing any cat over 7yr old in EVERY SIX MONTHS. Which yeah, might not be so bad (other than the effort/time of stuffing them in carriers and driving across town, waiting, meeting with the vet, etc.) if it were just that basic exam fee. But it NEVER is anymore, now is it? Because they're already pushing the wellness bloodworks once a year--a good couple-several hundred dollars, trust me--now they're going to be pushing it every six months.
I outright told them on the phone there that even I only get a physical every year, and that I think every six months is getting nuts. I even said and I quote "If I were single, I could not afford to have these cats and be paying this much." I will take Bebop and Crystal in that often, do the bloodwork that often, because yes, they have chronic problems and need monitoring--and the meds they take require the bloodwork for refills. So, fine. But I will not get pushed into doing this that often, when with four cats doing that much exam/bloodwork twice a year will run between two to three thousand total. As much as I already spend on food/medications/vet care, I will not be pushed into more unless it is something *needed*. Once a year is fine, twice a year is *not* needed and is just getting stupid. Come *ON*. Have some fucking respect and quit treating me like I'm an endless source of money. (Funny how a couple weeks ago when they said Tink needed work they also said that Missy's teeth were fine and they'd check again *next year*. Oh, how it all changes in a couple weeks, huh...?)
Really am feeling like they're gouging, and taking advantage. Especially since there's that implication that you're a bad pet owner and don't care about animals if you don't do as they say. Fuck them fuck them. But man, who would I switch to. I have no idea who else is good, because I've used these folks and trusted them for over fifteen years. For fucks' sake, why can't businesses not all go to corporate hell, and stay the decent people they originally were. *Fuck* the corporate mentality, seriously.
Also, fuck this stupid e-profile software we have to use (along with the old paper forms, to boot). Stupid thing's doing weird shit because it is crappy and buggy and stupid. GRAR.
