This is Di, and here is my report. ^^ (Apologies to all those that attended Akon--this will just be stuff you obviously know...)

I'm still blinking bemusedly at how quickly the con went by--but then again, I knew it would. Time goes extra fast when fun stuff's happening. But anyway, in short: I got to hang out with people I'd missed veryveryveryvery much, I got to finally meet some people that I'd only seen as text on a screen, I dressed up in odd costumes, and I spent a *LOT*.

Let's see...day 1, Nix and Brandon showed up. :D Despite my extremely poor and rather inaccurate directions, they made it to our house--and Nixy gave me tapes! :D :D *dances around snuggling Saiyuki season 2, Digicharat, and CCS tapes* (Now I must copy those that are Kea and Jenn's so they can finally have them back. ^^;; ) We took them out to the Mongolian Grill, and the cats entertained us all afterwards. Yep, you guessed it--all the many $$ I spend on cat toys, and the four find hours of entertainment in Nix's luggage and a cardboard box. Eh. ^^

Day 2--the drive from heck part 1. We got a late start (unfortunately James has been slammed at work, so he couldn't get away any earlier)--then we discovered that the state troopers in Missouri suck (or at least one in specific does...no, we shall never forget the one we refer to as Officer FuXX0r *growls*). Lets just say that Brandon had the severe unfortunate luck to be a young white male driving a red car with out-of-state plates at the end of the month (can we say quotas, boys and girls?)--what was *especially* (sarcasm, everyone?) joyous was how going 75 *on cruise control* was miraculously clocked to be 81. Wow. The favored music of the day was Dennis Leary's 'Asshole' song, as well as 'Happy Boys and Girls', and the banjo music from Raising Arizona. The motel was decent, if not strangely musty--but it was *there* and it was late, so it was good. And it had free breakfast in the am. :D We also discovered when grabbing food at a MacDonald's very very late, that they'll stare at you funny if you walk in, look at the menuboard, then chorus in unison "Foooooood!" ^^

Day 3--Drive from heck part 2, then Dallas! :D Not much else happened on the drive in, other than occasional shouts of "We're gonna diiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeee!" Music played on the way in was basically the same as the previous day. But we finally met up with Kea and Jenn and Moe and Eric and it was good. :D We got to eat cheese fries and discover that you can justaboutalmost fit eight of us in a booth. Then was a trip to Walmart for food/drink/stuff/PixyStix...yes, lots and lots and lots of Pixy Stix. :D After checking in at the Hyatt (I still bow to Kea for getting them to set us up in the room next to theirs), we then proceeded to help explode all things manga/anime all over Kea's and Jenn's room. :D After braving the prereg line to pick up badges (okay, so it actually was a fast-moving line, but they kept making us cheer for the camera) we got to terrorize a local IHOP. *hee* The rest of the day was spent watching anime such as CLAMP Gakuen Taiten (I think ^^;...CLAMP Campus Detectives in English)--and we were introduced to the wonderful parody known as EscaBlowMe. XD XD It kicks ass muchly.

Day 4--Day of Con 1! Woo! :D This is the day when I discovered that Meifu must have airconditioning, because being in Watari's two turtlenecks and labcoat is *hot*. But I was happy anyway because some people seemed to know who I and Kea as Hisoka were (and yes, I did have a beanie owl pinned up to stand on my shoulder). :D And as always, Nix is a coolassed Kenshin. ^^ Brandon made a *NIFTY* Van Fanel--and his shirt was fun to pet. *grins* Too bad he didn't have the wings. *hee* And Sue showed up, yaaaaaaaay! This is when we discovered that if you wander through the baggage claim areas of DFW airport in costume, people will look at you funny. But we found Sue, who brought Kumaguro-chan (*longdistanceglomps the stuffed Kuma-chan and snuggles it*)--and then we waited in the much *slower* prereg line to keep her company while she tried to get her badge and stuff. Some guy was playing a guitar--not exactly *well* but decent, and it made for good background sound. Nix and I started giving out Pixy Stix to good costumes--though people kept on insisting on taking *one* when offered *many*. Eh. Oh, and Sue had the cutest Ryuichi outfit. *grins*

Then...to the Dealers' Rooms! :D :D :D :D Muchmuch*much* money was spent. Did I say much? ^^ Though I was introduced to the most wonderful place there--Anime Jungle. Let's talk cheap dj's, CDs, LDs, DVDs, and CELS! :D :D :D Yes, Kea and I got some awesome deals on cels there, and they are now my favorite people in the world. I also liked finding some good-priced cels from (um, I'm probably getting the name wrong) Anime Asylum--and happily Curt there showed me his book of bargain cels. :D Life was good. And it is many thanks to Jenn for finding the Subaru and Seishirou djs I bought *dances about happily* Next we terrorized an Olive Garden--Eric and he and Moe's friend Tom were incredibly entertaining. ^^

Then...the highlight of the con--the Duel Jewel concert. Oh. My. God. I can *not* say enough about how wonderful it was. We ended up very close to the front, and oh man...oh man...they *ROCK*. And they're beautiful. And did I mention they kick ass? They were delicious examples of Jrock bishounen--and they played and sang wonderfully, and had an awesome stage presence. Hayato (? hope I'm spelling that right), the lead vocalist, can be delightfully naughty at times, and has a *brilliant* adorable smile. Shun, one of the guitarists, is my other favorite--long red hair, and a gorgeous deep red guitar...*PURRRRRRRRRRRRR*. Yeah. *drools* Their English wasn't the best, but that didn't matter--they were just hella-awesome, and I'd see them again and again if I could. Yes, I bought their CD, Lapidary. ^^ Ahhhh, dancing and jumping about, clapping and screaming wildly for what, an hour and a half solid? That is so the way to spend an evening. ^^ Wrapped things up really nicely by watching a touch of Yami No Matsuei and talking plot stuff (or rather, they talked plot stuff, I listened...unfortunately I ended up falling asleep. *sighs* I suck.)

Day 5--Day of Con 2. This time I was K from Gravitation, Kea was Tohma (this time she was the mega-warm one in a velvet coat decked out with maribou-fuzzy stuff on the collar and cuffs), and Sue was concert Ryuichi (love that shirt :D ). Do I even need to say that we ended up in the Dealers' Rooms again? ^^; Much much much more money was spent. More cels were acquired. Eventually as folks started to tire out, we wandered up to the rooms and watched this Otakon parody video (I must beg a copy from Sue, wai! :D)--it's the funniest damned thing I've ever seen, and incredibly well done. Characters from different anime are blended together over new backgrounds, resubbed, and used to mock everything from animegeeks, yaoifangirls/fanguys, gamergeeks, hentaigeeks, etc etc. It's hella-awesome, too. ^^ We also watched Excel Saga, and now I am *very* hooked--if you can find this show (and it comes out for general sale on DVD soon), *definitely* see it.

Yeah, here I go talking about food again--but this is so needing a mention. We got to go to a Japanese buffet place called Tokyo One. This was something James and I once saw mentioned on Food Network, and it's just as good as we heard. Get this--not just a Japanese buffet of foods like a teppanyaki grill and tempura...but sushi! A real live sushi buffet! Sushi and sashimi, all excellent quality and exotic stuff...*purrrrrrs* It was so damned good--and I even tried some things I never had before, like eel, jellyfish (actually it's really good!), and sea bass. Even the desserts were awesome, like these cream puffs where the pastries looked like swans. After that we nearly got ourselves killed running across the street to a "novelties" shop called Condom Sense. ^^;; Jinkies, that's all I'm going to say. Jin-kies. We then finished YnM, staying up til 4-ish with the aid of CodeRed and Pixy Stix. :D

Day 6--Con Day 3...the beginning of the end. Bleh. I hate the last days of cons. Everything's always extra disorganized, and people tend to be down because the fun is ending. I know I was. The am involved much getting cleaned up and packed, and trying to repack the car--a scary prospect when we were already pressed for space on the trip down. Also had to check out, while at the same time wandering back to the Dealers' Rooms occasionally--then attended a neat little Cel Swap panel, that wasn't so much a swap as people showing their cel collections. Naturally I'd been an idiot and packed my book away in the car. But it was neat. We wandered around and socialized a bit more, then went to Bennigan's for (I hope I'm remembering this right) Monte Christo sandwiches--whatever they're called, they're lovely. Tons of meat and melted cheese, all fried up, and with this raspberry sauce to dip it in. *gurgles* I like--but I missed getting the ice cream pie they have there this time. *pouts* Then everyone had to go their separate ways. After Sue headed out to the airport, Kea and Jenn led us out of town.

And this is where I have to snark a bit. See...James had been decent most of the con. Not all, but most. The first day he had a hissy fit and stomped out of the prereg line for a while because he took offense at a comment someone made. But the rest of the time he was generally ok, especially when he could hang out with our friends Cath and Bry or his old buddy Bryce. But this last day...this last day he pissed me the *Hell* off. Basically, he got really self-centered, and really began all but demanding we do things his way. He was impatient to the point of rude. The others didn't hear, but when we were taking longer to say goodbye to Kea and Jenn than he would have liked, he started bitching. Then on the drive back he kept pushing things along--at one point all but rushing Nix and Brandon away from a rest stop (I had to ask them if they'd needed more rest time, James had been so pushy about it). He got bossy and arrogant, and *manically* chattery. I mean, I know I babble, but he wouldn't shut up the whole drive back (and this continiues to the next day). Basically if any thought hit his brain, he spoke it. What was worse was his habit of talking over people and interrupting got hugely bad--I don't know if he did it to Brandon so much, but I lost count of how much he did this to Nix. Gah. I was so pissed at him as the drive went on, it was hard not to say anything or do something stupid like slug him.

Okay, snark done. So, one way or another, we said goodbye to everyone. That sucked more than I can say. It's like you can't hug everyone enough to stretch the distance we'd all be at after going home. I truly can't express how much it hurts, missing them--even those like Sue and Moe that I only met in person there. I can still remember vividly how we just kept waving and waving at Kea's car as we drove off on the interstate. ...meh. Anyhoo, the rest of the drive was a lot more subdued. I mean, not deadquiet (certainly not with James the way he was), but it was...lowkey, without the energy of the drive out.

Day 7--We hit a motel that was decent quality, but with one of the smallest rooms I've ever, ever seen. It didn't even have room for Brandon's air mattress (good thing the place had rollaway beds). They gave free breakfast tho, so we had cook-your-own waffles, which I admit was rather nifty. :) I got a chance to play the Brain Powerd soundtrack on the way, so everyone got their RDA of Yoko Kanno music. Then we hit home, at a decent time, actually--early evening. We spent the rest of the time looking at Nix's music videos and discovering that her Excel Saga avi's *do* work on my computer. :) This was a good thing, giving us a bit of an "up" for the day. I provided sucky food in the form of super cheap frozen pizzas...if we weren't so tired out, I woulda tried to get us out for something, even fast foodish. Oh well.

The next day they had to leave--Nix had hoped to stay an extra day, but turned out they couldn't. So we said our goodbyes as James and I headed out for work. And that sucked yet again. I really enjoyed hanging out with Brandon--*waves at Brandon* Yeah, you're really absolutely fun, and I wish you lived closer--and Nix...well, each time I get to see her, it's never, ever, ever enough. Saying goodbye just fsckign sucks, even if you know you'll see them sometime in the future--sometime is never soon enough, ya know.

Present day--So now stuff's back to normal, so to speak. Work...is here. It's no big deal. Though my usual post-vacation mood has me seriously thinking big changes, and I think I'll spend the weekend grabbing paper ads, and starting online job searches--let's see what I can spot here in town. I gotta do laundry tonight, and then I'll unpack all my loot--once I do that I should be able to list out what exactly I got (not just for me, but stuff I got for Anj, Katherine, and Kelly back here). At least I've got a ton of anime to watch and copy to keep me distracted and occupied.

So...I guess that's kinda it. I know I forgot a ton of stuff, and I left out a ton of stuff, but that's basically Akon in a Di-nutshell. I'm already thinking up what to do next year, yeah. :) And now I can focus on going to AnimeIowa at the end of August--and you know, if there's anyone who wants to go with, let me know. Hell, if there's anyone who wants to come to Omaha to visit, let me know. I've got nothing for vacation time these days, but my weekends are basically open. Hm...I need to start planning on a way of getting to Worlds of Fun and the Rainforest Cafe in Kansas City soon, too...wonder if there's anyone out there who'd want to do that--rollercoaster fans, any of you?

...eh, now I'm truly babbling. I guess I'll finally end this. It's far too long, but *shrugs* How else am I going to remember it all? I wish I would have brought my camera--I hope to grab pics and video clips from everyone else and from the con website.

Well, no matter where you go, there you are. I'm thinking of everyone much, constantly (even those of you I didn't get to see there *sends virtual hugs for Lemming, Kenji, Akuma, and Rei*) Love and peace, all..

!!!! HAWKE!!! WAI! *tacklepounceglompshugssqueezesyatilyerblue* It has been *forever*!! :D :D This is so nifty that you're on lj now--it's the only place I'm good at keeping in contact at, so finally I can see ya some! *dances* I'm not using ICQ anymore, but I do AIM some...dunno if you're on AIM at all.

Heh...yeah, I'm definitely going to be at AI--James and I will be there with a few friends from town here. I'm very much looking forward to the dealers room (no really? ^^) and the video rooms and whatnot--oh and the dance too! :D I was hoping you'd be there, so I could harass ya some. ^^ *extrahugs in advance*

Yay, so good to hear from you again!

Well, as you can tell, I'm bad about keeping up anywhere, though I might be able to more with this since I can access it from work so easily. ^__^

I'm rarely most places to chat, though if I am, it is still ICQ. Both it and AIM just eat too much memory and/or bandwidth when loaded with other programs at work or home. At home I'm usually found hiding off in the world of IRC anyway downloading, or at least queued to download, more anime avi files. Lems finds me out there in those mists late at night. ^__~

We're definitely going to be at AnimeIowa. I'm bringing nieces 01 and 02, as well as 3 of their friends. Am tempting another friend of ours, but will be a time before she'll be able to answer or know, but I've hopes of dragging her along with us.

HUGS!

Ooh, IRC anime dl-ing...I must investigate that more, now that I've got a cable modem. Trouble is, our firewall is weird about allowing file transfers. I've tried some ftp, but only really got one thing to dl right. I'll have to try it again sometime.

BTW, your hair! Sounds, cool, and can't wait to see the new look. To get so much cut off at once though--that must have felt really odd afterwards for a while. Lighter at least. :) Have fun in actually being able to style it! *grins*

*extrahugs* Heh, I'm glad I have extra reason to look forward to AI--out of curiosity, any of your crowd going to be doing costuming?

Laters!

Let me know if you want a listing of the best channels and servers that I've found out there in IRC land. You should be able to set your firewall to allow incoming on certain port, then just set your irc program to listen for dcc files on that port. Many of the fserves out there are firewalled and you have to set to their specifics anyway.

Hair is easy styling, so lucked out there. Was a change, but before '95, I had it very short and have been missing the ease of short hair. Has managed to get an 'eek out of my VP in shock when I popped my head in her office ^__^

Costumes! Arggghhhh! The headaches of that subject! Tay (niece 02) and her friend Morgan are conspiring on something and I think Beth (niece 01) is as well. I've been pushing them both to finalize because since I can't (don't) sew, they will have to enlist their mom and grandmom's assistance with that. They both have something in mind that they want to dye hair for, and that I don't know if my sis is going to go for, so I told them they have to get to discussing it soon! We'll see what happens! ^__~

Huggles!

Changing the subject line, 'cause I can... :)

Wow, a list of channels/servers would be great. James has mentioned that there's something in our router manual about ports, so I think I'll find the manual and see if I can get it to work. I gotta make this cable modem earn it's keep, ne? :)

Heh, sorry about the costume headaches. ^^; And the thought of dying hair does frighten me, after last year's attempts at it--I think all my characters are just going to have to be blond. At the least I can always throw together Duo, Watari, or K super easy, as I've got all I need for them. I *hope* (crossing my fingers here) to have a Konzen (Sanzo from Saiyuki Gaiden) outfit ready for AI. We'll see, as it's going to take some fussing with on the detailwork. I'm just hoping at this point. ^^

*many hugs* Hope things are going well!

catch up day in LJ!

I'll pull together that list off my ftp and irc programs this weekend while I avoid the heat. ::grin::

Tay is still set on being Asahina from Haunted Junction. We brought that anime along with us to Iowa to play in the room on my pc's dvd player and she's been into it ever since. So this year she wants to dress as her but that means she wants to dye her hair red! (this from her beautiful full chestnut!)

You're lucky to have the hair and color to do Konzen, K, and Watari! Konzen shouldn't be that difficult as he's really a lazy dresser ::grin::

Huggles!
