if that's moving up...

Eventually every MMORPG player gets to be part of The Catastrophic Raid. The sort where Murphy's Law somehow combines with monkeys flinging poo at you all. The evening started out well enough--had like the lightest traffic ever coming home. Got online, got my spot, stuff started a bit slow but not bad. And the group wasn't quite the precision team as Sunday, with fewer healing types than we really would've wished for, but what the hey. All went fairly smoothly until we hit that boss we'd had trouble with the other day (Gehennas).
So full wipe once, but it was a really good effort. Then...not just once, but *twice*, Gehennas and his two allies were accidentaly aggro'ed as we were resetting up and organizing--causing not full wipes but much death. Started losing people due to time, but were able to cobble together more members. And icing on the cake, was one member jacking around too much and making noise in the raid channel after the raid leader had asked for quiet, so said member was booted (didn't help he had a bad history on previous runs with our guild alliance). So, being the sort of person that player was--he aggro'ed Gehennas and allies *again* and purposefully trained him onto our group.
Asshat was banned from any runs with us and from our forums and chat channels, but still. That all but wiped everyone again, and fried people to the point that the raid was called, to be reattempted tonight. Fun. Yeah. I'd already planned on going anyway, but with the hope that we'd have made some progress, not having wasted *hours* on a worthless run the night before. Even if we'd not been successful, it would've felt better if we'd at least had multiple attempts go off leading to dying, not stupid accidents and a jackass.
So yeah, whatever, I'm sure. Just was 'an experience', is all. I imagine I'll still get a spot despite having to get home later, but on the offchance that I don't, I should hit bed really early. Am not catching up on sleep, just barely treading water so to speak. Am really tempted to take a night off of computer stuff entirely tomorrow. Not sure, will have to consider that.
Kept craving a DQ Blizzard badly last night, as stuff was all going down. Really, really craving. T__T Naturally James was out of the house with the car, and even though close (only a few blocks away), the DQ would've taken too long to walk to.

Date: 2005-06-23 03:42 pm (UTC)But I like your gf's comment XD Thank her for me. And thank you *heh* (Btw, I'm normally only a console/tv videogamer, with very rare forays into one-player computer games. This is my first foray into online gaming, and trust me, I had to learn the lingo really, really quickly ^^; And ask people to translate stuff I didn't--and still sometimes don't--understand *heh* )

Date: 2005-06-24 01:56 am (UTC)I like music games and various anime/manga-related things like Sweat and Tears (but you know that about me already XD). Other than that, I'm clueless. Sometimes my gf starts telling me about her adventures in FFXI and I realize I only truly understand about 20% of it.
...I should read such entries of yours MORE, so I can pull out the awesome lingo and
scareimpress the hell out of her one day. XD(no subject)
Date: 2005-06-22 03:16 pm (UTC)This is why I don't play MMO's.

Date: 2005-06-23 04:06 am (UTC)I was also in a terrible raid last night because of crap like that. We had a full 40 people marching into Orgrimmar to take Thrall's head after they assaulted SW. We would have done it too, but nobody would shut up and let the leader talk once we got there, and half the raid group thinking it "Looked cool" jumped off a bridge and seperated our raid into 2. We had a lot of level 40-50 people, most of the raid, and about 10 of the 40 were level 60. And yet, because of people constantly chasing after civilians (dishonorable kills because they just run and never attack you), only FIVE level 60 hoarde players were able to chase everyone back to ratchet. It was the shortbus of pvp raids.
I hope someone made some announcements about this person back in IF and SW to let people know he's a dick. Most people make it a point to avoid them when they hear that stuff. Then you get the people complaining that "You're a bunch of whiners." who you then also know not to group with.

Date: 2005-06-23 03:45 pm (UTC)I don't know if there's been any IF/SW talk, but it's been posted all over the forums at www.ugalleria.com, not to mention was discussed much in the uga chat channel ingame. But I have heard he previously had been kicked from his guild, so other players know that in general he sucks (the player was crookedduke, btw--a priest, even. >_o You know for people to kick a priest out of a guild or a raid, he's gotta be bad).

Date: 2005-06-23 03:53 pm (UTC)I really want to organize a full out raid though, hit all three hoarde cities at once. There's more than enough people playing alliance to do it too.
Oh wow, priest. O_o Yeah, he's gotta be bad. So few of them, and so damn important a class. I guess for once the name really says it all. Well, maybe if it was "Asshat" instead it would.
