This forwarded to me by Katherine, a message from a friend of hers:

"Just thought I'd let you know, ADV has acqured the rights to Saiyuki, and they will be releasing it under the title...

Paradise Rangers

God help us... the name conjures up images of color-coded men in spandex doing kung-fu with monsters in Hawaiian shirts... "

... 3...2...1... *Di clutches her head* Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! I mean, "Knight Hunters" instead of Weiss Kreuz was bad enough, but at least it fit the show inna way. But this?? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! *flailsflailsflails* Allegedly these companies are run by animegeeks. Why do they give them such hellishly bad names? Why, dear god, why? *FLAILS* Egads, what's wrong with just giving 'em titles that are translations of the Japanese titles, or at least something close to it? Or even something fitting for the show?

I hate US anime companies. I hate them I hate them I hate them, and while I'm at it, let me just state that nearly all dubs are atrocious, *especially* those done direct to video/DVD. Gah. >

I've toyed with the idea of starting my own US anime company quite a bit. I just have no idea where or how to start. I'm no businessman, hell, I hate the idea of being a business man. Maybe that's what happens to these anime companies, the same that happened to Apple and Cisco. Creators of the company don't know much about business, so they hire people who do, those people eventually gain power over the company, and fire the creators.

If I did though, I'd

1) Put some actual EFFORT into making dubs. You know what helps? ACTORS. >P Most dubs you can tell the person doing the voice isn't taking the role seriously, because it's a "cartoon" maybe.

2) Sleep with fansubbers.

3) Use my l337 imagination skills to come up with titles that don't suck ass. Everytime they change a title to an anime, I'll hear about a dozen or more better titles from fans, and hell, even people who have never seen that series.

I'm buying the second season from Animeart, and I'm buying it NOW, before I have to watch 'PARADISE RANGERS'. >

...thought about, hell, why do you think I'm starting my own animation company? Hell, yes, I'm gonna buy rights to Japanese stuff and sub/dub it in the US!

Come, Shini, join me in my quest to bomb the fucking hell out of Central Park Media and its affiliates--not to mention the rest of the anime companies! Join me, and we will kill them all and take over their equipment!

...hey, you boys wanna join in the fun, too?

*snerk* ^__^ Hey, I can dig it! Katherine I think even has a suggestion for us--there's this guy at ADV she attended college with (Matt Greenfield, I think?) that she has a *loooooooooooow* opinion of. I think she'd rather cheer if they, and especially he, got bombed/looted/pillaged. ^^

*nodsnodsnods* These are all very good ideas--and I think that US anime companies just don't care, is the big problem. The were started primarily by the sort of anime fanboys (and yes, some fangirls) who wanted to showcase their favorite jiggle and/or mecha shows. Or they're run by people who a)think they know better than the original animators or b)think this is the *only* way US audiences will accept stuff.

Those who know how the anime viewing audience has changed aren't in charge, at least yet. I do know there are some that are trying to stay more true to the shows, and to dub with more quality, but their voices are small yet.

Who knows--maybe sometime you'll hook up with someone who's more business minded. (Not to mention fansubbers ^^ Actually, I know a gal whose anime club has purchased the equiptment and is actually beginning fansub work--but she is rather claimed from sleeping with. But lord knows, this sort of thing ever becomes a reality for all of us, I'd sure as heck be whining to her and her group for fansub work. ^^ )

Woo, I babble, as always. ^^
