Well we were already in a downward spiral... aw fuck, I can't say I'm shocked but... ~sigh~

Hey wanna come along with us when we enact our alternate plan? We're backing the entire ark on a barge and movig to New Zealand. I only partially jest.

I must admit, I've wanted to go to the UK or Canada, but New Zealand is awful pretty--and I've always wanted to visit Australia. So, surely. (And yeah, only partially jesting, too--have looked at immigration policies some previously :x)

~laughs~ Hubby's checked out property prices. With what our house would sell for right now, we'd be really, really set for a nice piece of farmland.

YES!

I will be in that part of the world with you, I'll take up residence in Sydney and visit you often!

I'm already working on dual citizenship possibilities...

This election really smacks of something wrong with our electoral system if this is the second time we can't get our shit together. I see the country is far too divided, and far too polarized.

Isn't there some saner, more middle way?

Anywho, let's not wait the weeks or months it will take to figure out who won! Let's move today!

Ah, another reason for New Zealand and that whole wanting to visit Australia thing *clings*

Am curious, what sort of stuff have you found out about dual citizenship? I've looked a bit at UK and Canada immigration policies, but both look like they take many hoops to jump through and money spent.

But no fscking kidding to your fourth line there, I wish to your fifth line, and I'm game to the sixth. *clings more*

Australia scares me though.

I can take anything on, except Pandas and Koala Bears. I know my matches.

Not sure about NZ... but Australia, it's easier if you have an Aussie to "sponsor" you. I'm not sure of all the details... but I can get them for you.

I just honestly believe it's time for some middle road, some middle party that touts the best of both sides. Because true conservativism nor liberalism echos with a good population of folks who are "Socially liberal, fiscally conservative". The Republican side rapes human rights while slashing taxes and raising the national debt, while the Democrats tax the shit out of you for ridiculously idealist plans. Sanity. That's all I want. And not Socialism, because health care has its own brand of problems in a socialist society. (I've been told from a doctor friend of mine that it may be free or heavily subsidized, but doctors only work part of the year and you're just SOL if you get the flu in, say, April.) [livejournal.com profile] tokkan, would you tell me if this is really true?

*steps off the rantbox*

I don't know if it's just my clinic or not, but the doctors I know/go to tend to work year round, just some go to different places. The doctor that's a miracle worker for, say, ingrown toenails works at the clinic, say, s months, then up in North Bay for a month, and then back down here in Ottawa.

But my usual doc is, as far as I know, in year round excpet for vacation time.

The main problem with Socialist health plans, is that the entire population picks up the tab, and we've had a massive upsurge of whiny bastards that go to the hopsital for a hangnail or a small cold and such. Which takes up time and money, and wastes tax payer's money.

(But! They're thinking of instituting a 20$ service charge up front, so the skids won't go in for ickle booboos anymore.)

Cool! Thank you for explaining it to me a little better... I'm very wary of just believing hear-say. Understanding it from someone who is more knowledgeable of it is a far better way of discerning the truth.

A lot of people in the U.S. are wishing we could move more to Canada's system of health care, since the one here is very costly. You'd better have a job which gives you medical insurance- you might not be covered for everything, but at least you're covered. The very rich can afford the best service and the best, most comprehensive plans. As it stands now, I'm paying an arm and a leg for coverage, and I'm relatively healthy. Employers want to have the worker pick up more of the tab, since the employer's subsidized portion is such an expense.

It also sucks when you don't have dental coverage, and have to pay
$300 for two fillings.

Seriously, I want to. I've looked into what it would take to move to the UK or Canada previously, just would take a bunch of money is the problem. Looks like I know some folks that could be New Zealand bound. ^^; But man, I just really like the idea of southwest Britain or certain areas of BC (Vancouver/Victoria) or Ontario...

And seriously x 2, if it were just me in my life, I would have moved already. *very restless*

BC is extremely beautiful... But there's a problem with that. The further west you go, the more expensive housing is... ;-;

Nova Scotia and the Maritimes are good choices if you don't want to spend a lot of money and still have beautiful surroundings, but there isn't very much in the way of Jobs/Work outside of fishing, I think. Boo!

Not right now, but I suppose you could always try and get a job in Quebec or something. Something tells me there isn't much in the way of English profs there.

You'd just have to worry about racism and language police! Fun.

*squeee*

Canada is... well, chilly... and mayhaps that would be okay for folks who are used to, say, New Hampshire winters... but it's friggin' cold! And I think they took some issue with all of our ex-pat draft-doggers back in the late sixties and early seventies...

Though I could get us around in Quebec, je pense...

Sydney is temperate all year (think of San Francisco weather). The south island of New Zealand reminds me of pictures of Scotland. Green. Just. Green. (And sheep. Lots of them. 60 for every 1 person.)

*sighs*

Maybe it's more that I'm wishing I could be around you two right now. [livejournal.com profile] mintaka00 because I want to give you all the big hugs you can stand right now, do yoga with you, squee together over Gackt, make hot cocoa and chat about anything and nothing, and teach you some reiki! Gads, it's been too long since March! And [livejournal.com profile] whitereflection, it's been long enough since July, and I didn't get the chance then to talk with you about all the things that have been on your mind recently, and want to give you tons of big hugs and snuggles. *sighs* Miss you both, so much.

One day, I'll live in Australia. Pretty sure about that. I guess how badly things get over the next four years will determine just how soon that will be... and surprisingly enough, that statement holds true no matter who wins.
