The oddness of today--at the Library, we didna have teh pow'rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, captain. Or rather, the whole campus didna have it. Started out just after I went in, with six power flickers in the first hour and fifteen minutes. The sort of power flickers that blink the lights for a sec, but shut off/reboot all computers. And with faculty, staff, a butt-ton of public computers, and people at the laptop stations, that's a lot of computers going through six forced reboots inna row. Lots of lost work, lots of pissed people, at least a couple machines that need...assistance. >_o So by 9:30 we had everything shut down to save more damage, and thus discovered the problem was campus wide, and was some city utility problem.

So then campus power in general went down, leaving all buildings on back-up generator power (dim, flickery, freaky). Classes stayed in session, basically, we stayed at work tinkering with non-computery stuff (not much of that, though...). At noon, allegedly they were going to totally take down all remaining power, leave it off five minutes, then reboot the power grid. Naturally 12 hits and passes, then they reschedule it for 1. At this point it's worth mentioning our microwaves won't work of course, nor will the vending machines, and the fridge ain't working so is best to leave it closed. Yay for snacks kept in desks.

I think they eventually started the power reboot thing sometime after 1, but what was supposed to be a five-minute shutdown went for...I think upwards of 45 minutes. I dunno how long because at 2 Anj and I said hell with it and went to the zoo.

All I know is that our building doesn't have a ton of windows--it's like a concrete bunker or parking garage rather than library. But the basement level, no windows at all, none none. Got freaking dark down there when they took all power down, and was kinda trippy to see employees wandering around with flashlights like miners.

The zoo was fun, tho. Got to see Indo-China tiger cubs (about 3 mo. old), and green tree python snakelets (hatched end of October--so cool, because the adults are bright green, but they're born bright yellow or maroon), and just other neat stuff in general. Though..at the zoo, it is *spring*, lemme tell ya. *coughs* >.> All those little kids to see it all, too. Actually since we were there in the late afternoon, eventually it got really deserted-quiet, which was awesome, especially in the bayou area of the nocturnal exhibits. The animals were *so* out in the quiet, and seemed like a person could see and hear so much more. Wish I'd have been able to have my camera tho..ton of good photo ops.

Had Anj and Gina over in the evening to look at the PS2. Tried out Kingdom Hearts, and that is trippy. Neat, but trippy. Hadn't realized it was more actiony than battle menu, but hopefully I'll do ok with that. *scratches head* Though it made Anj get a bit motion sick eventually, and even I'm a touch wobbly. ^^; Our Sora (both Anj and I were playing him) is not the brightest crayon in the box. Went for the warrior option and it suits him--if he doesn't understand it, he hits it. ^^;; Though we are both enjoying far too much the possibility of getting to smack Selphie around, though we'd like to do so to the git-bint-girl character of the game, too...Kairi, is it? Please, let us hit her with a stick. >_o

Sounds like Anj saw lights on campus when she drove by this evening, so sounds like power is back again--will need the chance to catch up on so much lost work today. At least the air handlers/fans will be going again...

Gah, tired, tho...and too much swooshy, woosh-through-POV video game... -_
