Stray Kitty!
Apr. 8th, 2002 10:32 pmMan, this has been the *weirdest* evening. See, we got home from the grocery store about 7, and I see this cat huddled under our front bushes. It's not just lurking, not doing the "I'm just a neighbor cat passing through" look--it was doing the pathetic, something's wrong huddle.
It only took about 30 seconds of it meowing pitifully under the bush before it came out--and it was the *sweetest* thing! I mean, it was totally doing the "pet me" thing, being an absolute darling. But it was definitely a stray: just skin and bones, and really bedraggled fur, not to mention no collar.
First off, we gave it some catfood and water--and did it *inhale*!! I mean scarf-o-rama, a desperate sort of eating. We eventually took the food away so it wouldn't gorge until purging, if you know what I mean. Then, being darned sure it was a stray, and had been a long time, we took it to our vet. So, 200$ later (Ow. >< ).... But we now know it's negative for felike leukemia and feline aids, not to mention worms. And we got it all vaccinations, plus an antibiotic for a cat bite on its foot. Man, and it's only 6 lbs, poor thing.
Oh, right, it's not an it. ^^; It's very obviously a he, about a year old--and an unfixed one at that. He's got fur a lot like Crystal's: medium-long on the body, but long and poofy on the tail. But he's colored just like Missy and Tink, meaning brown tabby with patches of white on his muzzle and feet/legs. And other than being skittish at the vet, he's an absolute lover-cat! ^__^
So, yeah, it seems we are adding a fourth cat--so long as he doesn't turn out to be someone's lost cat. But I'm calling the humane society tomorrow to see if they have a report on him--and I may put a found cat ad in the newspaper. I just wanna do what's right if he is someone else's. Once we're sure he's ours, we'll get him neutered and then liscenced (it's cheaper to liscence an altered pet here--heck, we're just lucky they raised the limit from 3 cats to five total large animals! )
And now you know the rest of the story. ^^ So now after work, grocery trip one, mega vet trip, and grocery trip two (had to get a flea collar, plus a disposable catbox as we're keeping him on the back enclosed porch until he's settled and we can gradually introduce him to the other three), I can finally chill. I was dead-tired-beat *earlier*...now I'm just wiped. ^^;;
Oh, and he seems to be acquiring the name "Bebop". :) I wanted an anime-related name pretty badly, and this was one of the few James and I could agree on. James seemed rather not thrilled with any of the names I wanted to give him from my favorite (ie shounen ai-related) shows. But he'll always be Bebop Tsuzuki in my mind. ^__^ I mean, if we get to keep him for sure and permanent. We should have an idea about that in about a week.
Aaaaanyway, [/rambling]. >.> Um, for now. Heh.
