eval, wut?
Sep. 20th, 2006 12:27 pmHormonemo, yes. Blah.
Finally eval time (I am...amused, in a twisted sort of way that the eval period is only through May 31. That means even when I've gotten them by July 1 it's been a month late. This is...4 months?) The numbers are basically what I get every year, so that's ok I guess. The explanations are typical of my supervisor--as I emailed to Kat, it's no wonder I feel I don't excel in anything considering how bland my now-ex-supervisor writes about anyone or anything.
Two particular bits in the commentary tho. One is a notation that I was talked to early in the year about web use on work time. Makes it sound much more official than the quick comment/instruction that my then-dept.chair had given me, but whatever. The important bit is something officially documented in writing is very easy for them to ding you on again, so will have to be careful, now that I use my work computer again for web stuff on breaks/lunches. Both to make sure I don't slip and that they know when I'm on personal and not work time.
The other bit though...a very odd comment that I've never ever had on an eval before, so it's out of the blue. Basically "However, in expressing herself, Diane is sometimes led by her emotions. This can make it difficult to respond to her and may either intimidate the other person or fuel a more emotional response on their part." Frankly, I think if this sort of thing was an issue at *ANY* point in the year, someone should have discussed it with me then. I shouldn't be hearing first thing about it on a yearly eval. My former supervisor and dept. chair really fell down on the job in that regard, and I plan on making a point of how it should have been mentioned before during my meeting with ex-supervisor tomorrow. I do wonder who raised this point too, because said ex-supervisor has *never* mentioned anything about this or had it on any evals ever before. So I'm guessing it was ex-dept. chair, perhaps. More glad than ever to have a new supervisor/dept chair chain.
But seriously. Intimidate? What the hell. I'm one of the least intimidating people I know. I can see the 'fueling an emotional response' bit, but I find the intimidating comment to be ludicrous. I couldn't be so if I *tried*--which I have. It fails utterly, trust me, as have any of my attempts to be tough or menacing.
But yeah. Anyway. Weird. Both dreading the meeting tomorrow and wanting it to be done. Going to be such a relief to be out from any further influence of ex supervisor or ex dept chair. Funny how *wonderfully* I got along with retired dept chair before the ex one and how there were no issues--says something about ex, I think. There's a reason after the reorg he's not a chair of anything any longer, imo (and ex supervisor is now no longer supervising anyone but students, interesting hm).
Anyway. Other than that, listening to Dream Theater -- Metropolis 2: Scenes From a Memory on repeat again. Also, Axel and AkuRoku fangirling at an all-time high. But some of the early fic I've been finding for those two..*ow*...good, but ow. Heartachey. Kind of tough to read on my good days, probably should avoid when in a moodswing, eh? :|
