One of us is gonna die young...
May. 12th, 2005 09:04 amSo the concert last night was, at the least, an interesting experience. Opening act Mars Black was, eh, ok I guess. I'm not very into rap/hip hop, but they weren't really too good even with that. And I guess The Faint and Bright Eyes were co-headliners, so that meant more Faint than I was expecting and less Bright Eyes. Which in a way is ok, because I like The Faint, and truly they rock hard. Awesome music. But I was really there most for Bright Eyes, and their set seemed so damned short--only about a CD's worth of songs, and not much older stuff. And Connor Oberst has a freaking *ton* of older stuff--so they were choosing to keep it short (only really focusing on one of the two new CDs, Digital Ash in a Digital Urn). But Bright Eyes was a pretty decent live act, and I really did like that. It's just kind of odd that I think I would have enjoyed the Blue October show that I missed end of last year more. Not sure why that hit me that way.
Anyway, the crowd during The Faint set was...fscking insane. That crush at the second Duel Jewel concert? *Nothing* in comparison, *nothing*. I started out 6th row-ish (as much 'row' as you can get with general admission), and ended up 2nd row because the pushing was so bad. It's like everyone was one fused mass of people, pressed together so hard that I'm seriously surprised no one passed out or got hurt or trampled somehow. And the mass in back kept freaking pushing forward, even when those up front were damned compressed. Was just something else. Anyway, all was much more sedate for Bright Eyes' set (yay for emo keeping down the mosh-mindset). And digging into that second row-ish, approximately center stage spot, I had a great view, I will grant that. Man, Connor is a skinny boy.
But both The Faint and Bright Eyes have huge bands. I didn't count for Faint, but Bright Eyes had two drummers, three guitars and/or bassists, two keyboardists, electric cello, and electric violin--and Connor drifted between guitar, keyboard, and just vocals. (The electric cello and violin were actually The Faint members, and one of the Bright Eyes keyboardists also did trumpet).
So, anyway, there it was. And the massive thunderstorms hitting the last several days continued (and will do so off and on for days), so was soaked by the downpour after the show. Not to mention, was horrid funky after the show. Too much sweating, too many people crushed close together, too many people smoking when the building was smoke-free, too much pot-smoking going on just everywhere >_o;, And the crush during The Faint led to horrid tangling and matting of my hair. I ever do that sort of thing again, must remember why braids are good. Gads.
Random thoughts: Coffee this am, yay. Like lifeblood. And Starbucks was carrying two new Izze drinks, too. Nifty. Ahyes, dinner out with Dad and Dave tonight--kinda want to just go home and sleep. But then again, kinda wanted to call in sick to work so I could stay home and sleep, but I managed to not give in to that urge. Go me. I think Gorillaz's Feel Good, Inc. is *finally* starting to get radio play here. About damned time--the song's only been online for ages. I want that CD.
