Weekend was a bust, but I seem to be almost fully recovered--voice is almost all the way back, booyah! :) Friday (after a half day of work) and Saturday I crashed *baaaaaaaaad*...slept constantly and ignored everything else. Except for the four times Friday afternoon that someone programmed their fax machine to dial my home phone. Ergh. Sunday I basically rested--Kelly dragged me over to her place with Anj, Gina, and Katherine while James was out at Amtgard (like a live action fantasy RPG, where you occasionally beat on each other with foam covered weapons). We talked a bit, I doodled (I might color the pic--looks like a mass of tangled ribbons curling over the paper) and stared off into space a lot. Kelly actually did a real art-type-piece, Gina crocheted. T'was ok, if quiet. And I'm actually trying a full day of work today. I need to--been feeling lazy with all the sick days and half days. *shrugs*

One bright spot to the weekend: Anj loaned me seven tapes at six hours each of old cartoons she'd taped. Eek! the Cat (and the Terrible Thunderlizards), The Tick (I'd had a few eps taped, but not *nearly* as many as she had), even a bit of Sam&Max (I'm hoping she has eps I don't). I am having a copy-extravaganza. ^_^ Anj is such a goddess.

On a blah note, I think I'm giving up on The Jar forums. I'll read the webcomic every single day it's posted, I swear, but I'm really just burned on the message boards. It's simply not fun anymore, and I refuse to waste time on something that's not fun. I made a few friends there, but I can keep in contact with them by lj and AIM.

I mean...the forums are just a bunch of 14-year-olds jacking around these days--the latest newbies I saw when catching up last night just fried me completely. Personally, I'm very big on not judging on age; after all, I've had fun joking with even high school types. But these 14-yr-old types *act* like it...act even younger, like jr high or elementary school level. And I refuse to deal with immature ditwads anymore. It's just...*shakes head* no more. I'm not putting up with it any longer.

Got a few RPs there I've got to figure out what to do with, tho. The chibi-Jar one...I think that's DOA, in all actuality. Wasn't really bouncing well off the gal who had the seme-Jar to my uke-Jar anyway--I don't think she knew how to (or was comfortable) RP a seme type character. *shrugs* Bill's Apocalypse RP...I don't know what to do with that one. Being War is fun in a way, but I'm so unmotivated to get back to that. All but a few of the people in the RP I could care less about--I mean, I like Bill, AN, and Kara, but that's it really.

The Montrose AU RP I really like--it's got a neat Shadowrun/Mage: TA feel--but I treat posting there like I treat writing for real. I put a bunch of effort into it, which takes a bunch of mental/creative energy, not to mention time and *work*. And well...my character is really just a normal human with a few special traits and abilities--no big deal, with no huge impact on the storyline I think. More likely than not I'll end up bumbling my way into getting her killed off, or at least get the character's ass kicked in a major way and end up luzer instead of hero. ...I dunno. I'm gonna have to think about that one.

Ah well. Maybe ditching the forum boards will free up a little time for me. I haven't been doing anything with art or writing stuff, and I really should change that. Eh. *shrugs*

Random thought: The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight is my *hero*. :)

Oh, and Rei? My new little Max pic (from the comic) is 'cause you rock for knowing Sam&Max exists. *grins*

I remember seeing the Sam and Max cartoon, but no one around here carries the comic.

I do want to try and pick up the Howard the Duck tpb that my store carries.

And if you forgoe the forums, that's fine--it seems most of us are going that way anyway.
*hugs*

You remember Sam&Max, too? Then you rock, of course. ^^ The comic was out years ago--what I have is acutally a graphic novel/compilation thing. Hard to find, but majorly worth it if you ever stumble across it. Just like Ben Edlund's original comic of the Tick, the original Sam&Max is much, much cooler--aimed at adults rather than kids. ^^ If I ever end up in the same geographical area as you, you have my word I'll show it to ya. :)

Howard the Duck...man, I should really find the originals of that. All I remember of it is that gawdawful movie back late 80s, I think it was. ><

And thanks... :) *extra hugs back* Is kind of a bummer in a way, but at least there are other places to connect (one of these days I will check out the IRC again, too). BTW, is the Montrose AU going to keep going--should I keep checking in on that?

You know, I should talk to 'Kuma about it--me and her are really the only two who are participating, I mean, fully--and there are some that show interest.

Maybe we could compile it through email or something? We'll have to find some time to discuss it. If we do, maybe I won't have Pesmergea beat the snot out of things. :P

WOOOO~!!! *glomps Max* Sweeeeeeet. ^_^v

Note that I've already given up on the forums as well. And for the exact same reasons as you. I have, or at least think I do, all the AiM, ICQ, and MSN names of the people I wanna keep in contact with.

Oh, and I should practice my Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight voice again. Used to do it perfectly.

"And so he says to me, 'you wanna be a baaaad guy?' And I says, 'Yeah baby! I wanna be bad!' Surf's up space ponies! I'm making gravy, without the lumps! AHAHAHAHHHHAAHAHAHHA"

*stands and applauds* Encore! Encore! ^___^ I'd memorize every single one of that dude's quotes if I could (hm, I haven't tried, tho, really...I should rewatch that ep a bunch and see if I can. ^^ )

"Evil's okay in my book!" Okay, so I can remember a bit. Heh.

I know your pain, Shini. I've gotten to the point now where I sort of swish in and out more from habit than real desire to deal with these unimaginative, borish twits.

And I don't refer entirely to the newbies.

It was fun until Tom Swan crashed the forums so many times and drovemost of the interesting people off, but now it's getting to the same level as the rest of the forums I've been to--something with a collective IQ in the single digits, that is. They all try to copy what's been done elsewhere, without having ANY kind of flare of their own.

I've been toying for the past few days with the idea of posting a poll on the forums asking how many people remember me. I'm sorta afraid of the answer, though. ^^;;;

Like Superman, the forums are dead, IMO. They just haven't quite figured it out yet.

Exactly, exactly! All they're doing these days is copy-catting the other forumites, and copying what people do on other boards. I just wanted to pull my hair out every time I saw the words "I brought this character from such and such board" or "We do things different on this other board". Bleh. I just don't get what the fun is in redoing what they've been doing on countless other forums.

Instead of having fun in the Montrose universe, they're all just acting out their private RP fantasies, getting some sort of jollies out of dragging everyone through their me-centric stories ...not to mention getting worship-jollies at having people pay attention to them. (coughgezcough)

*nods* It's been dead for a while--I just couldn't help but hold on in the hope that the folks I didn't like would go away, and the fun people would come back. ^^;

> "I brought this character from such and such board"

This one I don't mind so much. Akumachan, after all, originated on a forum I left over five years ago. Also, it's usually easier to use a character you're familiar with than to make up a new one for EVERY forum you join.

It only starts to bother me when they refuse to allow their character to develop differently in each forum. Montrose Universe is NOT MegaTokyo Universe is NOT Sluggyverse(s), for instance. What happens here doesn't necessarily happen over there!

...honestly, haven't most of these dumb kids ever heard of 4th Wall?

> "We do things different on this other board".

THIS one makes me want to scream. "THEN GO BACK TO THAT OTHER BOARD!!" in particular.

I'll be honest, Shini, the Montrose forums really died for me when Tom Swan brought in a forum mod who'd never even read a single topic on our forums before, because "he would have a fresh perspective."

Sadly, the comic is almost dead for me, too. I mean, if you promise to update on Monday, Wedhesday, and Friday, shouldn't you at LEAST put up a note that says "comic late, midterms" or "comic late, sick" or even "comic late, murdering writher?"

I just don't think Kittyhawk or Tom Swan respect their fanbase at all. I wouldn't have a problem with backing it off even to updating just once a week. "From now on, we're only going to update on Mondays because I can't keep up with this thrice-weekly updating; sorry, guys!" would go down a LOT better than "It's been three weeks without even an updated message from either owner."

It's pretty obvious they've really, honestly lost interest in the comic and are only doing it because people nag. I betcha half the newbie forumites haven't even read the comic, too.

...anyways. Back to the forums topic. I've seen this happen before. It's a great place because the original, creative people are there. They mention it to their friends who aren't as creative, who mention it to their friends, and pretty soon the original, creative people are driven out from the petty bickering and outright plagarism, and the "new" people are left wondering why it's not as fun as it used to be when they first arrived...
