Now *that's* winter

Wow, actual moisture. *arches eyebrow* It drizzled all of yesterday, which became a hard rain in the afternoon, then sleet in the evening, and finally snow. Luckily, it didn't get *really* bad until after midnight, so we got home before the worst. Just had to deal with sloppy, mushy weather to walk around in. But this morning...*criminy* was there snow. Maybe it's not a lot for those in the north/northeast, but here it's a bunch--like 8+ inches. All very deep, drifting (some kneehigh and above), wet and heavy. Dandy to shovel, lemme tell ya. ^^;; Heavy powder over a sleet layer is spiffy to scoop--made me envy those in the neighborhood with snowblowers. At least we didn't get freezing rain/sheet ice.
Had to load up on motrin afterwards, as my knees hate me. >_< And even had to go for the albuterol inhaler, thanks to the cold and increased activity kicking off some asthmaish/lung irritation stuff. But figures this would happen on a weekend--no snow days off. *flails* And the powder, despite being so wet, just won't pack, so a person can't even make a decent snowball or snowman. No fair! *flails*
Anyway, caught Star Trek Nemesis last night at the dollar theater, and was actually rather impressed. I think it's the best Next Gen movie/episode, and to me ranked up there with the original series movies 2-4, which will always be my favorites. Tonight I'll hang out with Anj some, as James has an Amptguard thing and Gina's car is too buried in her apt lot (thanks to their plowing company) to dig out today. But Anj and I will take the chance to see Pom Poko, since I haven't seen that yet, and another from the Ghibli DVD box set--'I Can Hear the Ocean', I think? It's the only one Anj hasn't seen yet. From that box set, I still need to catch 'Only Yesterday' sometime--after tonight I should have seen the rest. Still need to watch that copy of 'My Neighbor, the Yamadas' that Anj got for me. Not to mention all the other anime folks have been giving me. Gads, I'm behind. *flails, sighs*
Did muffins this morning, for the hell of it--okay, so it was a box mix. But still, lemon poppyseed, mmm. :) Tho I like the double chocolate chip box mix muffins better, still.
Oh, and homestarrunner.com rocks. Rocks! Strong Bad is my hero. Go, read his emails. >D And the comic 'Something Positive' at somethingpositive.net is fricking awesome. Dark, warped, twisted, sick, and perverse, but fricking awesome too. XD ChooChooBear the cat is also my hero. >D And that new flash animation thing I've seen around--the rolling fight-"Madness" one? God, that kicks ass. ^^ Sick, and I love it. That music is just weird--like a techno 'Chicken Dance' polkaish thing.
Reminds me, for some reason, that I wanna find an mp3 of the "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" music. ^^;; Peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat!

Date: 2003-02-15 02:53 pm (UTC)Just wanted to let you know that 'The Yamadas' is great! Very subtle, but definitely a slice of life in Japan. My bf showed it to his Japanese friend who is not an anime fan and Toshi loved it...he said it reminded him of his family. That reminds me...I told him I'd make him a copy. ^_~
Yay...I love ST 4! Definitely a favorite. *grin*

Date: 2003-02-16 02:07 pm (UTC)That sounds right up my alley--I think one of the reasons I liked Azumanga Daioh so much was that it was more slice-of-life (not quite subtle, though. More comedic/cute ^^ ). Now that I got to see those other Ghibli things last night, I need to set aside an evening for Yamadas. Maybe not tonight, though...don't think I could stay awake. So much for my weekend. ^^;
Heh...3 and 4 were the first ST movies I ever saw, and they pretty much defined my teenaged geekhood. Just as Next Gen was becoming big, I turned into the hugest original series fangeek, and it's still my favorite. But I think 4 had the best sense of fun and whimsy out of all of them--maybe that's why it hooked me so much. :)

Have you read Little Gamers (http://little-gamers.com)? That's another funny strip. ^^

Date: 2003-02-16 02:12 pm (UTC)I've heard of Little Gamers, but hadn't checked it out at all. Nowait, looking at the link, I think I've seen it once or twice when someone's linked to a specific comic. That's cute. ^^ I think I'm gonna have to add the bookmark. Gotta admit, my favorite webcomics of late are pvponline.com, megatokyo, 8bit theater, sinfest, and this horribly offensive but strangely funny parody of DBZ called Buttlord GT. People out there have some great senses of humor. :)
