It's going around...

Like some sort of infectious plague. F'ing hell. >p
Was leaving the grocery store parking lot on the way in to work this morning. I was waiting for the woman ahead of me to turn left, and finally there was this brief clearing. I thought she was going for it, I honestly thought she started to go. And I was gonna duck out right quick behind her so I didn't have to wait longer. But she didn't go, and I bonked into her. Just a minor, under-five mph tap, but it was enough to put a small dent into her back bumper (like someone poked it with a finger) because the license plate holder on my front bumper sticks out. What's especially great about it, is the vehicle, a minivan, was just bought two weeks ago--she didn't even have the plates yet, just dealer tags. Oh, I feel just f'ing brilliant and great now, yeah.
I dunno, maybe I just imagined she was starting to accelerate. Maybe she did and stopped, deciding the gap wasn't good enough. But I assumed she was going, and was too busy looking left and right, and should have double checked *forward*. Dammit. And here I'd always been so proud of never hitting anyone. Even with it being so minor, I bet my rates will go up. I wonder if I'll be lucky and that dent will just pop back out, or if they'll have to replace her bumper totally (it's a black, unpainted rubber/plastic type, couldn't tell if it was cracked at all). Anyway, had to tell my ins., had to tell James. God, I feel damned dumb--this is about as bad as hitting a parked car. No damage on Puchiko (the Saturn), though, not even to the bumper or that license plate holder.
Bah.
Anyway, Crystal's doing better. Dunno what made her so sick Thursday night/Friday, but she was improving Saturday am, and was normal by Sunday. Maybe she ate a bug that upset her stomach or something. But Friday night Missy had the worst hairball mess of her life all over Anj's suede-leather/sheepskin coat. Goddamned cat. ><;; So I'm paying to have Anj's coat cleaned, which isn't super cheap, but isn't terrible and is the least I could do.
Spent the weekend doing the OSX upgrade, which went fine. I've got all the software I need, and am getting everything put in its proper place. Taking longer than I thought, tho. In the transfer, the inbox from my home email got lost (when I burned my mail folder to CD, a glitch had labelled my trash folder on my hard drive as 'inbox' and my inbox as 'trash'--so I burned the 'inbox' and didn't save 'trash', therefore ended up with my old trash and not my inbox msgs. >_< ), and I forgot to save my iTunes prefs, so I don't have my playlists. I can rebuild that from the info on my iPod though--but the inbox msgs are just gone. Feh. Most the rest of it all is working ok, though, and I like X already, much. Very much. *nods*
Saw Treasure Planet Saturday night with Anj and James, and it's surprisingly enjoyable. Some *GORGEOUS* scenery and backgrounds, neat character designs and creature designs. I think I might want the artbook. A decently well-executed movie--and I'm rather impressed at how they did the facial expressions, especially for the main character, Jim.
Gotta go work on my lobby case display--think I'll take my iPod and play music too loud so I can pretend there's no one else around. A mood like this needs to be wallowed in (ie. a "goddamn, I can fsck up but *good*!" sort of mood). Idiot idiot idiot. I'd be dangerous if I ever learned to pay attention.

Date: 2003-02-10 09:27 am (UTC)On the other note, I'm glad your on X! ^____^ I promise, the more you use it the more you'll love it. I'll resend you that hirigana program that I sent before if you want. And we can gossip about other apps now, hmm.. already told you about Safari. I just installed a kick-A video player for .avi's the other day... ~thinks about what else she can share~ I'll have to sit down in front of the machine tonight and see if I've got any other goodies for you.
Re:
Date: 2003-02-10 10:24 am (UTC)*hugsback, snuggles* And I'm really not being hard on myself, truly. Just am mad that I wasn't careful enough and paying attention enough, as James is always telling me I need to be more so even when I'd had a basically perfect driving record--it was inevitable that I'd end up doing something if I didn't heed advice like that. Meh. But yeah, it was just an accident, and very minor at that--I just feel guilt so well though, and you should have seen how crushed that woman looked that her 2 wk old, brand new vehicle had its first ding. Made me think of how you would have looked after Esmereldas got crunched. -_-
OSX is just mighty slick, tho. :) Even the software just seems to work better with it--and Safari is *really* nice. I think some sites I've been to previously, and some flash/shockwave animations look better, more sharp and clear, under Safari. Looks like css (cascading style sheets) are still a problem for it though, as they were for the Mac/Netscape combo. I've got IE loaded on as well, tho, for sites using that. I do still have the kana program--I saved it and burned it with other stuff to a CD-Rom, so hopefully I won't need that. But a player for avi's?? I have been *wanting* something like that, so I don't have to keep converting from avi to mov (to play in Quicktime)--I would rather just play the avi directly. Could I beg that of you, or at least the info of where I can find/download it?
*extrahugs* Thanks, hon, for many things. Take care, love ya bunches, and all that...

Date: 2003-02-10 05:40 pm (UTC)As for my face after Emeraldas was crunched, let's just say leaving my sunglasses on didn't disguise it much. And I did cry for the next two and a half days. Ack, now that she's all better I have to get a picture of her for you, just so you can see how gorgeous she is. ~blushes~ Yup, I'm that pathetic.
Anyway, more fun stuff; .avi players. You can download here, http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html Then just drag and drop the files baby. Don't forget to save it to your HD though, or you'll learn like I did that when you reboot it goes bye-bye. ^^ Hey, no one's called me sharp. It's sooooo much nicer than all that conversion crud you had to do before. You know, covering for all those poor folks out there who have yet to see the true light and abandon their pc's for Macs. ~grins~
And I agree, OSX really is just *slick*. (What version are you running?) I resisted upgrading at first, I was so used to 9. But man, even a person like me, who really doesn't play with operating systems and functionality can tell the difference in coolness that is X. And if you are someone who plays, or a user of Unix or Linux, you will be a very happy camper indeedy with OSX. Enjoy! ^____^ I tend to use a combo of Omni Web, Safari and IE (~shudders~) simply because when I left my last job, all my bookmarks were in IE and it was easier to copy them over than to reset all the bookmarks in a new browser. I've been weaning myself away from it. Every time I hit a site with those damned pop-ups I'm more inspired to do so. Omni Web is great but there’s something about the appearance of Safari that I really like. It’s not dressed up it’s just intelligent. Hubby will be pleased to know you're an X user now. Oh, and I have to thank you again for that MacWorld subscription. He's totally delighted with it. Of course that means they are starting to stack up in the bathroom again.... ~sighs~ but he is happy as a clam in mud.
Waaak, I'm officially babbling now. ~glomps ya and shuts up~
Re:
Date: 2003-02-12 08:16 am (UTC)Many thanks for the URL!! *extrahugs* I will dl that this evening, when I finally remember. ^^; Could have done so last night, meh. And my OS version is 10.2.3, if I'm remembering right. Basically, what came with James machine when he got it--lucky for us the install discs work on iMacs, too. I'm like you though--I don't play with things at all, but I enjoy what it has to offer.
I had trouble with my bookmarks, I must admit. :p I'd been using Netscape, but Safari won't import anything bookmarks/favorites but IE (and if I opened the Netscape bookmarks file, it was gibberish--Netscape said it was an html file, but OSX/Safari said it was a text file). And it *only* does so the first time you open Safari (how are you supposed to know that unless you've already opened it and looked in the help file? >_< ) So I had to convert my Netscape bookmarks into IE favorites, and export the favorites list into an IE html file. Then I opened the file with Safari, and manually pulled the bookmarks from the IE file into the 'show all bookmarks' menu screen, and organized them. Yeesh. This is where Safari shows it's still a beta. Boy, they need to improve bookmark conversion. I do like how that 'show all bookmarks' screen is iTunesish and easy to play around in, though.
I like the 'kill pop ups' feature in Safari. :D And IE is the *worst* out of all of them on that stuff--on fanfiction.net in Netscape, I'll get one pop up per page, but in IE, I get like *5*! It's like it allows *extra* pop ups, or something. >_< I'll only use IE as a last last resort. Bleh. Heh, and glad he likes that subscription--do you guys get the CDs that come with it, too? Those're sometimes fun to play around with--even just to watch the staff movie they make. ^^
*extrahugs* Catchya later, take care,
