First of all, thank you again to Sue for the 'This is Otakudom' tape--finally got to watch it last night, and it gave Anj and I some good laughs. Very cool. :) But I also really liked the few music videos tacked onto the end--firstly because it was rather neat seeing AMVs done before computer editing really took off. Just a fan and a couple VCRs, still able to turn out some neat stuff. But also there was one, that while I've never seen the anime, was rather...timely, fitting, appropriate, I guess you could call it. The one for Wings of Honneamaise (sp?) to Chris Deburgh's 'Spirit of Man'--it very much hit me, and was really meaningful for much of what has been going on of late, especially this weekend. *hugs Sue extra-tight* Thanks, hon.
The Spirit of Man
Into the Light
(Chris DeBurgh)
I'm chasing a shadow, I can't see a thing,
It's dipping and diving like a bird on the wing,
And every time I get near it just seems to slip away;
There's a fighter inside who will never give up,
We are what we are and it's never enough,
Write the words in the sand that this man will come again;
You may run from the sea, and the words disappear,
Oh you may fall to your knees,
But the power is here, to survive;
It's shining again,
It's shining again--the spirit of man,
It's shining again--the spirit of man;
Ah remember the first day of man on the moon,
The whole world was watching, a whole world in tune,
It was hard to believe he was the same as me and you;
Oh, look back to the future and look down the years,
It wasn't all battles and bad news and tears,
We have brought to this place a desire to have a dream;
We may reach for the stars, and fall from the sky,
Oh, in the darkest hour the spirit of man comes to life;
It's shining again--the spirit of man,
It's shining again--the spirit of man,
It's shining again--the spirit of man;
And we work--aha--for the good things that we can have,
Yeah we work--aha--for the family and home,
Yeah we work--aha--for the D-Mark and the dollar,
Yeah we work--aha--for the woman on the phone,
Yeah we work--aha--for that moment of elation,
Yeah we work--aha--for a chance to get away,
And we work--aha--just to let imagination,
Come inside and take me away;
We may reach for the stars, and fall from the sky,
Ooh, in the darkest hour the spirit of man comes to life;
It's shining again--the spirit of man,
It's shining again--the spirit of man,
It's shining again--the spirit of man.
This weekend was as insane-busy as I thought it would be, but we did get everything done, basically. Crystal's dental exam went ok (no teeth needing to be extracted, happily), and she recovered quick from having to be under anesthesia. And even with being in a bad place in my head and moodwise, I still got to the mall, Aki's, and Target--and even got all the cats' licenses done at the vet's. The evening at Don's went well, which made a good birthday for him (watched a documentary on Ray Harryhausen, ep. 3 of Excel Saga, and the second Gundam movie, Char's Counterattack).
Sunday we did a brunch buffet with some folks, finally got to Jiffy Lube (only almost 4000 miles late), and did Leslie's DnD game. Got my character disintegrated. >_< Think I'll take a cinderblock to the d20 that failed me. Tho it's not so bad--our characters have funds and some connections, and I can get her wished back. I worked on hiragana during the game (especially after my character got gacked), and now I can recognize and write all 46/47? characters--once I finish the vocabulary practice in the workbook, I want to get started on katakana next. Then spent the evening watching anime stuffs with Anj and James, and trying out some new food from Aki's--the instant wakame soup and fried ika (ie. squid, precooked deep fried balls that you could microwave), sesame croquettes (also precooked and microwaved), and melon pan (a sweet bread) were all rather awesome. I love Aki's frozen food section. Oh, and Anj and I figured out a new word from my AD manga--nuigurumi, which means stuffed animal or stuffed toy; and found a new kanji...put the kanji for day and the kanji for moon together as one symbol, and it's the kanji for 'bright'. Rather nifty.
Slept extremely poorly Friday night, and that plus getting up early Saturday, and not sleeping in Sunday, I'm wiped majorly. It's only Monday morning. It's gonna be a long week, I think. Ohyeah, and we should be getting some sleet and several inches of snow today. Yay. Anyway, am feeling the urge to work on hiragana practice tonight, continue burning stuff off my hard drive (just have my mp3s left), maybe do a little DDR, take some notes on my cels for the gallery, maybe even work on some art stuff. Probably will only do one of the above listed things, then crash hard, knowing me. :p
Been thinking about Nix extra these past few days. I miss her terribly, and this latest stuff just...it just makes me hurt inside, knowing what all she's having to deal with. It's just not fair. I don't want bad or painful things to happen to her or people she loves. I wish I could be there with her, even just for a few days... *sighs*
