It was occurring to me...
Oct. 4th, 2002 10:15 am...recently when reading the CLAMP fiction board, Clampesque, and the submissions folks have been making for the 1999 word fic challenge, that something was kinda odd.
And that something is, a total and complete lack of humor.
Okay, so there's not been *that* many of the fics for the challenge, but still. Every damn single one of them is angst, dark-angst, angst-angst-angst, or at least are just very serious and somber in tone. No goofy stuff, no silly fics, no humor. Hell, not even any warm-fuzzy, upbeat, or even just kinda positive pieces.
And I know this is CLAMP, and specifically was a challenge for X fics, but still, at almost any other time people are writing happy/silly/WAFFy/syrupy/cheerful fics for that, why not for this challenge? Is it because everyone's in a funky mood at the moment? Is it because humor is harder to do, and if they want to put something up now, they go for the potentially easier road of serious/angst stories? Is it because it's hard to do happy or funny in a shorter piece like this? (Personally, I don't think this is it--I think it's just as easy to write a short humor or sap piece as a long one). I dunno. It's just rather perplexing. You'd think that with the number of fics people are writing for this, that odds would have *someone* doing a jocular or upbeat story.
I have to admit, I want to write a humorous piece for this, just to do something *different*, just to say to all of them "Hey! Look! We don't *ALL* have to jump on the angst bandwagon like a bunch of sheep!" It's like, come on folks, try to be unique once inna while. Or something. I think I'm just being snarky about it. But I do want to write something for it--I even have a tiny germ of an idea of sorts. Trouble is, it is true that a person has to be in the right mood to do a humorous piece. And, well, I'm not in that mood, and haven't been all week. And humor is something that can't be forced, or it's *bad*. :P But maybe I'll get in the right mood soonish, and can try to play with the idea a bit. We'll see. Even if everyone's forgotten about the challenge, it could still be done just for the hellofit.
But I do wish life wasn't getting so hellaciously busy for Kea. This would be the perfect time for an omake bit from her QueenedOut!Subaru and Jenn's Hentai!Fuuma. ^^
Hm. And I wish I could draw. For some reason I have the mental image of Snarky!Kamui making an Extremely Rude hand gesture to the CLAMP mangaka collective and saying "Foreordain *this*!" Heh.
