Oct. 26th, 2005 12:23 pm........ ><;;;; So. Improper use of the apostrophe seems to be one of those things that yanks my chain. Mixing up it's and its gets me, though I try to understand it can be hard not to switch them. But adding apostrophes (or should I say apostrophe's >< ) to a plural as if it's a possessive? As in "I have four cat's." Or worse, as seen on produce signs, "Tomato's".
But the latest, seen on a memo distributed to the entire campus: "5'th Annual". .....................GARGH BASEBALL BAT PWNZ J00 DED D<<< Cuh-riminy people. I mean, for feck's sake. MSWord has both spell *and* grammar checkers. But at least proofread your own work before you print and photocopy for the masses. Or get someone to do it for you if you are unable to spot such things. GARGH. ><;;;;
(On a related note, I've been trying to ignore the marquee at a local infant/toddler store that I see on the drive in to work. Surely "Gem Babys" is some brand spelling, and not that some lackwit didn't know to put babies instead of babys? Please tell me I don't have to take the bat to that business and explain how correct presentation on a drive-by sign is something a business should strive for?)
Right. Okay. I'll shut up now.
