(Yearning, pt. 2)
It's strange
she said
how sometimes
when we're far apart
I'm so lonely I want to cry or die
--or both--
or I'm so hungry for you
I feel it like teeth
on my skin
and I'm lost in the
black hole
within myself
until a few words from you
anchors me
into calm and peace
And yet other times
even if I miss you
I still smile simply because
I love you
and it's somehow enough
to know that you're out there
somewhere
so just thinking of you
leaves me glowing
and flying
and happy
Isn't that strange?
Perhaps
I said
it's like the moon
where sometimes it's enough
to see a crescent, a sliver
of the light
and we can be perfectly content
with just a little
But sometimes it's
so very, very
forever black
that all we can think of
--the only reason our heart beats on--
is the coming time when the moon
shines full
once again
So maybe it drives us a little crazy
the waiting for it
I guess it just depends
on the day
Then she smiled
for no reason at all
And so did I
