Well, that's not something you see every day... I drive through a park on my way in to work, and this morning some guy was riding a unicycle on the trail through said park. A unicycle...a really large-wheeled one, too. Weirdness.

Bebop's April Fool: There's one spot in our house where we have wallpaper--the hallway on the main floor between the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. And said wallpaper has some loose edges. And yes, Bebop has been known to paw at/bite those edges and tear at them. Up until now it's just been little bits that I can easily trim away. But today...today he got a big chunk peeled up, and thanks to paws and teeth, tore a huge strip of paper away from the wall. ...*bastard*. I chased him across the house to smack him. I tried to repair it with clear packing tape, but I think rather soon I'm going to have to pull down all that wallpaper and paint that hallway. Goddamnit.

Actually, I'm trying to space off the fact it's April Fool's Day. I hate it all, myself. I was always the kid who believed everything, who got to feel like an idiot-moron when everyone laughed. At least now most people I know don't try to humiliate gullible people like me for fun. Just know if you have *anything* to tell me, especially anything serious, wait until tomorrow--I have learned not to believe shzt today. I did notice a few of my webcomics are doing AF things--like the Penny Arcade/PVP switch. And the stuff on Strange Candy and 8Bit Theater is so obvious it hurts. A couple sites are also doing the classic customized 404 not found screens. I do like the one that comes up at http://www.dirtysocks.com , tho. Heh.

I do wish someone would come in and tell me that ha ha, the university budget problems were just all an April Fool. I'd dig that. Or if they'd say that the Iraq situation or Dubya being president was just a prank. Ha ha.

The weekend went somewhat better after Friday night (still haven't figured out the spice rack hanging problem, tho). I spent most of Saturday and some of Sunday assembling my stained glass piece together with the lead--I do need to grind a couple pieces more, though, so it looks right. I'll get the grinder and soldering iron Wednesday evening, so maybe I can work on that more this weekend. Our last class is next Tuesday. Had Gina and Anj over Saturday evening, and we ended up in the sorts of moods to rewatch some Azumanga Daioh--then Anj and I did the same thing Sunday evening, after I fed her dinner. Eeee...we're so predictable. Also got a little more done on my long-neglected hiragana workbook on Sunday.

Someone has posted photocopied pictures of Dubya looking tough-angry on the staff bulletin boards here at work. You know what? I think it's keen to do stuff like that in our cubicles, but not in common areas. Not all of us are of the same opinion on him, on the war, so I think we need to respect all opinions in the workplace. If they want to post pics of the flag or something, fine, but not of Dubya. I plan on typing up a couple of appropriate quotes I've found and tacking them up over the pictures. And we can have 'freedom of expression' wars, ne? Or I'll just take the pics of him down, and we can have fun that way, ne? Maybe that will remind people that we're not a unimind here, and that we have to accomodate all opinions in our common/shared spaces. And I'll represent the anti-war/anti-Saddam/pro-America/anti-Dubya faction, thanksmuch.

Poor Nix...I feel sorry for her having to deal with me last night. I'm such an airhead, and a lousy conversationalist.

And my supervisor just arrived, and saw me obviously not working. Hooray for me. *sighs darkly*

Spent a lot of today stewing about those photocopies of Dubya that had been posted, and finally came to the conclusion that the only real way of addressing the issue was to talk with a higher-up, specifically our department chair. Lo and behold, she didn't know who posted the pics either, and she also felt that those spaces were meant for work information only (and that pictures and other items like these were really best posted in someone's individual work space/office/cubicle). Hence, she took the copies down--matter resolved.

Talked with her a bit about the whole thing, and even she was saying that *if* we were to get some sort of picture of a president put up in here, it'd be an official photograph/portrait thing, and would most likely be put up in a public area. Not some grainy b/w photo with them looking angry or threatening. And it wouldn't get posted on multiple bulletin boards like some sort of 'Big Brother is Watching You" thing. (And me personally, I couldn't help but feel like I was in Russia or China or somewhere like that, with their huge building-tall paintings of a leader glaring down).

It's one thing to put up things with your beliefs and opinions in your own space--god knows I've got tons of comics/cartoons that are mildly socio-political in my cube. But in almost any place, you have to be careful about what you put in 'shared' areas. Either you have to put up things from everyone's point of view, or leave it neutral and post no opinions at all. Of course, then you have to consider that a 'work only' space *really* does mean 'work only', even during interesting times. It was kind of reminding me that yes, we've got to express ourselves--say, on our own person, in our workspaces or homes, in our journals, etc. But as some have said, there's a time and a place for things, and a person does have to consider we're all quite a varied mix of thoughts, beliefs and opinions. *shrugs*

Tho I still am curious who put those photocopies up. Seems like no one knows--whoever did it used some sort of stealthy-ninja tricks or something. Or they did it over the weekend. ^^;; (And why only the Bibliographic Access bulletin boards? Why not on any other department boards? Weirdness.)

Anyway, topic thoroughly beaten like a way-dead horse, so am shutting up now. Right.
