a quickie...or something.
Jan. 2nd, 2003 07:33 pmA briefish update, to catch up on stuff since I last did a real post. Had fun the last few days in Seattle, despite my moodiness. Saturday we snacked/shopped at the Pike's Place Market, then had dinner at my aunt's place. Sunday we just walked down the Alki beachfront--harassed my brother at the Bakery, then strolled along the surf and watched the tide go out and beachcombed. That...that sort of thing is why I want to live there always. I feel...so content, so like I belong and am in the right spot l ike that--I could just hear poetry in my mind. Naturally, I didn't write any of it down, but I hope to see if I can remember any of it when I do have time.
The flight back went ok, though was a lot more turbulent than the trip out. On the Denver to Oma ha leg, we actually got to sit in first class (they were trying to 'balance' the plane as there was still much cargo and a lot of empty space in the front areas)--didn't get any decent food, tho. :p Just fancier pretzel snax. (By that I mean fancier pack aging, same mix, really). But the seats were comfy, anyhoo.
And the last couple days of my holiday break were ok. Tuesday I ended up kinda scary-busy from cleanup/catchup sorta stuff, but then we did a BubbleGumCrisis 2040 marathon at Anj's on Wednes day. It was decent fun, and the first 2/3 of the show just rocked. I mean, I was actually thinking I liked it better than the original. But that last 1/3...total crap. As if the writers/directors got changed all of a sudden. The pacing ground to a ha lt (around 10 padded eps that should have been maybe 2?), the plot got totally dumb/cheesy/bad videogame RPGesque, and the characters started being exceptionally stupid. Like they lost intelligence--and then they started forcing some character interactions like someone had said "There was Leon/Priss and Mackey/Nene in the original, we *must* put it in 2040, too!" So it was like the last 1/3 didn't fit with the first 2/3 of the series.
All in all, I'd say watch that first 2/3 because it really is keen--then maybe watch the last 1/3 with the intent of mocking it horribly. Then ponder as Anj and I are of totally rewriting the last 1/3 in fanfic form. *nods* (And as for interesting pairings, Priss/Linna seem really implied, but Leon/Nene and Nigel/Mackey seem to be there some, too. Sylia/Nigel seems more overt, but...feels kinda off and creepy to me. Sylia seems far too possessive of *everyone*, if ya know what I mean.)
Had a very fun and trippy phone call with Nix last night--she is formidable when d ebating/acting as devil's advocate. :) I lost track of time bad, tho, and stayed up way too late. Meant to get to bed early (since I'm still readjusting to central time, and hadn't gotten up super early during the whole break), but ended up staying awake later than usual. ^^; Kinda a zombie today, but as it was the first day back at work, no one noticed as we were all spacey and not concentrating much. Least my supervisor wasn't back yet, so extra talking and vegging wasn't noticed.
Am dead beat now, tho. Meant to AIM tonight, but I think I wanna crash. Especially since something is giving me major body-aches, dunno what. Think motrin and crashing is in order. :p Tomorrow night we hang out with Don for bad movie night--maybe I can check in after that, see who's up late. Meh, is hard getting back into the usual swing of things.
Oh, a couple of interesting notes: my mother and brother are deargodawfulhuge SpongeBob Squarepants freaks. Damned theme song is still in my head. >_< And the azumangaf anfiction group is up to 12 members, and some of them aren't people I knew and invited! :D I'm very happy about that. Anj's posted two pieces of fanart (and is getting close to done on her fic--she's up to 40 pages single spaced, so far), and one person posted a link to some fics they'd done previously. So happy to be seeing posting activity! *beams like a proud group owner&moderator* And I joined the yahoogroup Crowley's Angels, as I'm now a total Good Omens & Crowley/Aziraphale freak. Reread the boo k during the trip, and remembered why I loved it so much years ago. (And why didn't I see the C/A potential back then? Was I blind?? *flails*)
Crashing, crashing...missing some people horribly! Will find you and harass you when I'm not being such a tired/wimpy person! *flails more*
