Catching a breather
Dec. 8th, 2002 05:24 pmYoiks, think I'm weekending myself into oblivion. ^^; At least I think it's gonna start settling down after this point. And I am getting things done, which pleases me immensely. No seriously, I get a thrill from a well-crossed off To Do list. ...but that sounds kinda sad, doesn't it? ^^;;
Anyway, Friday was a strangely moody day. Dunno why. Just one of those days that had me worked up and angry at weird stuff, yet also down and lethargic and unmotivated. I found cutting out paper snowflakes to decorate the wall outside my cubicle strangely soothing and calming. Did other decorations in my cubicle--some sparkly garland, a velvet ribbon bow with some sleigh bells on it, that sort of thing. Kinda goofy to do at work I know, but I dig it. I figure if I'm gonna be in that spot eight hours a day, I should like it and it should look like me. :) Plus I'm not doing home decorations this year (since I'd have to take them down the 20th, in preparation for being gone and not having as much supervision of destructive felines as is safe around that stuff ^^ ), and I wanted to have somewhere feel holidaylike.
Saturday was rather nuts, but kinda cool. Did the usual bills in the am, then went with Anj to a local glass-blower's open house/exhibition. The glass-blower is a guy named Ed who used to work in the research wing of the VA when I was a lab rat there. He eventually ditched the VA work, and changed his hobby to a full-time job, and is *really* good. I like getting hanging glass spheres (good as Christmas ornaments or suncatchers) from him. So I picked up a few for gifts, and actually got one for myself for the first time (whoa ^^ ). Got James this rather neat glass fish that resembles a beta. Watched some glass-blowing demos, and watched a woman show how to make glass beads, which is *really* cool.
Other studios in the same building were doing open houses, too, so we wandered a bit and checked out pottery, metal and iron sculptures, paintings, etc. Picked up a couple pottery bowls that look very Japanese influenced, and will do nicely for noodle or rice bowls--or just for soup/cereal/ice cream when I'm feeling more lazy-American. ^^ Neat glazing job on them, too.
Then...we did a foolish thing. I had to hit Suncoast and some other places for the last of my Christmas shopping--but it wasn't until Anj and I just crested the hill over Westroads that that meant we were going to a mall...on a weekend...in December. I dunno if I even have to describe the sudden screams of "Aaaaaaaaaaaa!" as the realization hit the two of us. ^^;; It...ah, was crowded. Yeah. Only had to park a *little* in the boondocks. But I did get the last of my Christmas shopping done (except for one thing that is on order and I have to go back to pick up next week)--and I bought Anj some chocolate from Godiva to compensate her for the horror. Heh. Found a kick-ass-awesome loud, buttondown shirt like I like so much at Hot Topic, so I finally got to use the 15% off card I've been holding on to for ages.
We hit Aki Oriental after that, and I spent too much on Japanese groceries. ^^; But it's cool tho, since it was fresh fish Saturday, and I now have the ingredients I need to make Okonomiyaki tomorrow night--even have the right sauce and real Japanese style mayo in the funky bottle for toppings. ^^ I'll have to post the recipe I'm using later this week. Got more pork/vegetable steamed buns from the frozen section--I am strangely addicted to these, and wonder if it's the Goku in me emerging. ^^ Rest of the evening was much more normal--once we met up with James and Gina, we went yet again to Cozmo's, then watched the final eps. of Azumanga Daioh--finally got to see *all* of ep. 24, and damn, it's it *cute*! :D Prime Sakaki moments.
Went to Michael's service this am, then came back and did Christmas cards until my ears about bled. ^^;; But I'm done with them *dances* ^^ I didn't have so many to do today, but it was the ones where I wanted to write a message inside instead of just signing it. I'm kinda odd, I know, but this is the sort of time where I like expressing to people how much they mean to me. ...*ponders* Egads, I'm gonna need stamps, aren't I? Eep. Anyway, taking just a chance to chill before I dive into wrapping a few things, then we head over to Don's for bad movie night. Gonna introduce him to Excel Saga. >D He is a fan of enough anime, especially classic stuff like Captain Harlock and Galaxy Express 999 that I think he'll very much appreciate.
Man, there's gonna be a lot of wrapping this week, I can tell. I wanna do a major post office trip for shipping stuff out this next Saturday am. Eh heh, I can't help it--I hate packaging stuff up for mailing. Wish I had the dough to take it to Mailboxes Etc. or a place like that. ^^
Oh, one last thought--I'm finally done copying CCS for people here! DONE! >D *dances* And after this evening, I will be done copying everything I've been promising to people these past few months. Hot freakin' diggety. :D
Hrm, suddenly rather hungry. Good thing Don's gonna be feeding us, or I'd start eyeing up the cats as my 'emergency food supply'. *hee* ...whoo, am realizing I'm kinda tired tho. Guess I shouldn'ta stopped working on stuff--I'm losing my momentum. ^^;
*has an Azumanga Daioh moment* A! ^^
