inevitable unrepentance
I think I shall talk about WoW, and only about WoW, and not even pretend to mix it in with other stuff or tuck it at the end of a post. Wowowowowow. :p
Hmf. I need more current WoW icons...
I didn't pull the all-nighters that some of my guildmates did when servers went live, but very nearly. When they made everyone relog in to flip all the Cataclysm "switches" on, I had some trouble logging in, got in a bit later than some of my friends, even the husband. My first goal was to try to max the fishing skill while everyone else inundated the new leveling zones, but between the login problems and me wasting time going to a deserted area in Northrend (previous expansions usually have a lot of server problems and crashes, so I went to the old areas to avoid that--but there were no crashing or lag problems after all), I fell behind other persons thinking the same thing. So Ak only got to 496 fishing when it announced that someone else got the realm first in maxing the skill (525). Oh well. :p Then took the chance to get all the new skills and old world flying trained before heading for a whole hour of bed. ^^;
For actual leveling, Tuesday I tried out the Hyjal zone, which is really rather cool. The other intro zone for 80-82is...Vashjir, I think? A fully underwater zone, which though they give you ways of breathing and whatnot, doesn't thrill me. Pushes buttons I have about my childhood fear of water and all that. Eventually was pointed at some good areas for mining, so I had Ak work on that some after hitting 81, then got to 82 so I could take him to Deepholm for better mining (maxed out that skill at least, though obviously by then all the realm firsts had been done). Leveling seems to go really very fast. As it is, our max will only be 85, and they're freaking flying by, even without xp boosts or rested xp of any sort. The realm firsts for 85 were showing up within 24 hours--and I know people are *crazy* about racing for that point, but it really did seem to be happening super fast. Our guild had its first 85 night before last, with the first hardcore of us (ie those who pulled an all nighter Tuesday and pretty much did nothing but grind that day and Wednesday) getting such yesterday.
After doing more mining--even with the skill maxed, Ak needs a fuckton of ore for raising his jewelcrafting, which is currently stuck at 495 until I get more daily tokens for the rare gem designs--finally got him to 83 yesterday. This is another reason why leveling seems super fast. Two levels for me since it started? That's...really fast for me. And I'm not in game near as much as the hardcore group in my guild--I've been trying to keep it moderate, especially since it was only yesterday that I really felt mostly better from that cold. I have a feeling I'll get him to 85 by tomorrow, Saturday at the latest. That's just...so fast. >_o Thought there's still *TONS* to do beyond that--getting Cataclysm loremaster via questing, hitting the dungeons and later the heroic dungeons, the usual. It's just weird--I thought there was no way we could be raid ready before the holidays. And while I still don't want to be worrying about that before Christmas, everyone very well could be set to go, at least. o_O So fast.
Anyway. So far, I like the look of the zones--there's some really, really cool looking stuff out there. It just definitely has the feel of old world Azeroth, though...smaller, not the vast, sweeping, panoramic zones of Northrend. I'm liking the mix of monster designs we're sort of familiar with, with stuff that's new and freaky-looking. The questing is pretty decent, and they're continuing to work in some that are fun and silly, and of course there's a plethora of pop culture references and puns.
Class-wise, Ak looks to be doing pretty decent leveling as destruction, which is cool. I really didn't feel like switching specs just to level. But I can tell I really need to work on the new rotations for destruction, which I've been a touch lazy on. It's just funny that the most simple spec for warlock looks to be one of the more...maybe not complex. but a lot to keep juggling. Professions-wise...jewelcrafting is going to be a pain in the ass again. All the stuff I have to get is purchasable by the tokens that you only get one a day of--so it looks like a good 280ish days before I can buy everything. THANKS BLIZZ. Yet, it's appearing there's no 'damaged necklace' type thing like from Wrath that allowed you to get extra tokens. Oh, and not all the intro level stuff is trainable--friend of mine saw a design that was a random drop, but only bind on pickup. So considering my luck with drops (ie. Bad.) and the fact that they can't be sold/shared if they're bop, that means I'll probably never see that shit. :| THANKS AGAIN BLIZZ.
Meanwhile, other professions can use materials they gain questing/instancing, and gain without limitations other than their own time/effort, to buy their designs. NICE. *sigh* The only profession that's screwed in the 'one token a day' regard is inscription, but oh yeah, they have jackshit to buy, so it doesn't hurt them. :| I really don't understand why say, a blacksmith, leatherworker, enchanter, whatnot can get their recipes so quickly so they can have a complete list fairly fast--whereas a jewelcrafter is forced to be incomplete for fucking months. It's also really tough on smaller guilds to then cover their jc needs internally, since they'll have fewer jewelcrafters. Just sort of stupid game design.
Anyway, blah blah blah, been trying to screenshot stuff occasionally. :p I should do more, but it's hard to when distracted by the go-go-go of grinding professions and level, and wanting to hit things in RL because other players are asshats and assbutts and such.
From the quest that introduces you to the Hyjal zone.

Ohhai, Deathwing :p

And ohhai, Ragnaros :p Seems he got woken to soon (ahahaha. *ahem*)

From meeting with Thrall at the Maelstrom:

And then when they send you to fly into said Maelstrom--which looks really freaking cool--down into the Deepholm zone.

I really like the look of the Deepholm zone. Very trippy. At one point I realized that the ground/rocks *shimmer* under light effects. Anyway, I would SO use this for my desktop wallpaper if I wasn't already using petite-madame SPN fanart.

There's so many new zones I haven't even seen yet, so that's just bits of two. Haven't gone to Vashjir, Uldum, or Twilight Highlands. Have seen the Blackrock Caverns and Stonecore instances on normal, but obviously nothing on heroic yet, much less the...five? other 5-man dungeons. And I'm already seeing that indeed, my crowd control skills are rustier than shit, thanks to pretty much never needing to use them since Burning Crusade. Yays. :p Now to just remember how to juggle banish and fear...
