Holy *jeebus, what an episode, boys and girls. o____o Good gravy, plot points finally being revealed \o/ Even the stuff going on IRL isn't keeping me from feeling freaking excited about things \o/
*Hi, I liked that opening scene a lot. Got me some Sam in pain, yes. :3 Finally, offically the big reveal about Sam's soul being gone \o/ (Also later--yay, Sam being choked :D Must be
*Damn, but Dean is harsh though. I'm on the fence about it in some ways, as far as understanding why he is. I mean, I get it, but, it's kind of like 'no soul' = 'not human/not Sam' for him. On the understanding side is, I get that he does not like, even hates soulless!Sam because of his actions, the things Sam is willing to do or allow to be done because of the lack of his soul/feelings. On the not understanding side is--ffs, that IS still Sam. Say something happens to someone you love that causes them to be impaired in their judgement--like say, a brain injury that screws with, ruins someone's judgement, ability to tell right from wrong, stuff like that. Do you stop loving them because they now *can't* tell the difference between right and wrong? Do you consider them no longer human? Or do you throw that away? At the least, he was swayed to not just lock Sam up, but really I think it was only because Sam showed he can't be locked up. And I thought I was still seeing that Dean does feel for his brother, still does care for him--but I also can't help but feel that it's like if Sam *can't* be normal because he's impaired *through no fault or choice of his own*, that Dean is still defaulting to considering him inhuman and well, evil. And that's even when it's potentially fixable...sort of makes me wonder what he'd be like if Sam really were unfixable. Guess it's a good thing he's not faced with something like from real life, like a Sam with a permanent brain injury that's taken away his ability to tell right from wrong, that there's no hope of fixing.
*I do get the whole Dean telling Sam he's in control though. That honestly does make sense. I think Sam without a soul not only loses his judgement, feelings, and compassion, but sort of common sense, too? His instincts, as Dean points out. Sam is a person seeing things in very, very simple black and white, I think--no shades of grey at all. Like with the Samuel situation--Sam sees it as Samuel is family, family is good, therefore Samuel is good; not seeing the shades of grey that he doesn't truly know Samuel, and as Dean points out doesn't have the same view of family that Sam and Dean have.
*Btw, random thought that kept occuring to me through the episode (and well, in previous episodes on and off--dudes, why do you keep splitting up? Splitting up is almost always bad. Splitting up with people you don't really trust, also bad. :p
*Other random thoughts? Er, how do you smell a soul? Does not having a soul cause one to 'smell cold', does that mean having a soul leaves a person 'smelling warm'? And what does that mean anyway? Not in a live/dead thing, I would think. Sam's soulless, but not undead. I dunno. Also, that "facility" sort of made me think, oh hey, supernatural creature Gitmo. :| I'm crass like that.
*FINALLY SOME REVEALS \o/ YESSSSS, finally some explanations of what the fuck's going on. So the Campbells are nabbing alphas to try to find Purgatory. FOR CROWLEY. Ohman, Crowley, you magnificent bastard. At last, we have our bad guy. Samuel's Crowley's bitch, Christian's been one of Crowley's demons for who knows how long, Crowley wants to Manifest Destiny on Purgatory once he gets his mitts on its location. And Crowley's holding Sam's soul hostage. omg amg and so on \o/ So, anyone want to theorize that Crowley was the reason Samuel was pulled from Heaven? Or hm, more like Crowley sprung Sam, sans soul, but I'm guessing in perhaps in business relations with rogue angels like Balthezar, who were the ones to send Samuel back--and perhaps it's just for Purgatory, but what do you want to be it's also for all those souls of supernatural beings now in Purgatory? Considering souls are big currency, that's a mother lode, I would think.
*Ohman, that end scene ♥ Lends credence to my point that Sam sees everything in very simple, almost childlike, black/white terms. Samuel is working with a demon, the king of hell in fact--therefore he goes from family=good to Sam, to working with a demon/betrayed he and Dean=bad, just like that. And thus when Samuel gave that ultimatum, of course Sam was going to kill him. I...still don't know if I buy what Samuel said though. He's still a prick, and so's Gwen--neither of them have lack of souls or being possessed to blame for it, either. I am kind of wondering what Dean would have them do, since he obviously doesn't want to just work for Crowley--truly, if they don't work for Crowley, Sam gets shoved back in the cage. Does he honestly think they should outright say no? It seems like the only way to keep Sam from being sent back to hell is to 'work' for Crowley until they figure out a way to either destroy/cage Crowley or get Sam's soul back so Crowley can't hold it hostage anymore. I mean, what other option does Dean think they have? It obviously sucks, but they need to at least pretend to toe the line until they can save Sam somehow. Unless he figures Sam in the cage is better than working for Crowley even a little? :/ I just don't think that's what Dean really wants, but it's sort of an implication.
*Btw, PS, just to state as I have before, I like Dean, I do a *lot*. I just think, for a human, who's got all his soul, who's not impaired or under threat to be thrown back into hell, that he's still being too harsh in certain beliefs. But I think that is perhaps the point of this season, as much as saving Sam's soul--for Dean to realize that this *is* still Sam, and that he still loves his brother, even as impaired and damaged as he is. Maybe he'll realize that he'd be the same way if he were missing his soul--and that in a way, this is Sam's 'getting off the rack', being broken. Everyone breaks in Hell. Dean broke after decades, chose to get off the rack; Sam was forced to break by having his soul taken. Anyway, yeah, all just my opinion.
PPS This cold still sucks. Avoided taking meds this evening because I was seriously worried I'd sleep through the episode. Least I can, now. \:p/

*Hum. So, definitely holding Sam's soul hostage as it seemed from 6.06, but would it really be as simple as 'get one alpha and he'll give it back'? Yeah, right. And as I thought, it's still the 'no soul = not Sam' thing, which drives me a bit nuts. Jeebus fuck, it's Sam with a fucking hole in him where a soul should go, but it's *STILL SAM* GDI. Oy. That is going to make me a bit irritible, I think. Dean, ILU, but jeebus fuck. That's one area where *Dean* is very black/white. I wonder if he'll ever get to a point where he acknowledges Sam is still Sam, still his brother before they fix the soul thing, or if he won't be able to do so until he's resouled. I wonder what the 'shady stuff' referred to in the preview's about. I wonder what the 'betrayal' the preview splash screen refers to, and who's doing the betraying (Samuel? Dean? Sam?) Ugh, waiting a week between shows is gonna kill me, for serious.

Oh boys... I want next week because I want to know how it goes on.
I liked this one, too.

It really was a cool episode in a lot of ways, and I like that it was exciting, but while still making me go "oh *boys*" and flail a lot, wasn't heartbreaking.
That icon is hot. 8D

Yes, this. I liked just watching them, together without having to prepare myself for any kind of heartbreak (even though with this show you never know). Now, it feels like SPN.
Thank you. :)
I'm not really satisfied with itand it took my ages to make the cap presentable. Might try to re-do it but I wanted that picture in my LJ and as an icon.. LOL

I do wish Dean would cut Sam some slack, but I also get why he's so tough with him. Sam's proven time and again he can't be trusted without his soul. Even after Dean told him he'd be watching Sam's every move, he still went and lied about what they were doing with the Alpha. But I think Sam's definitely still in there, and I hope Dean realizes that soon.

yeah, there were some things I didn't want to see. Like after the first scene I was scared we were going to see another Dean vs Sam episode. But thankfully things went differently at the end.
Yeah, I think that it was really clear that Sam was complitely unable to make decision with reasoning. he is like a baby. But I'm glad Dean pushed and revealed Samuel's game because Sam needed a shove to choose his brother once again.
I might like where the season is going. The plot is interesting. Now I just hope the boys will be able to work again as a team once again. :)
