Survey says...
Aha. It's definitely a cold.
Anyway, we did wander over to Anj's last night for a little more Azumanga Daioh--we're up through ep. 15 now, and will probably go through her last tape (through ep. 20) on Saturday night. Then we'll just have to find a fansubber with the rest of the series--we're guessing it's about 26 eps. long, lasting through when the girls graduate. And I'm even more besotted with the series now, if that were possible. :) It's not only funny and cute, but has a lot of effort and detail in it--I mean, they're always adding touches to show the passage of time, or to subtly note what season it is, things like that.
I mean, you've got a character whose hair is growing through the series, and Anj says a point comes where it's suddenly shorter again--because she's obviously gotten it cut. There's occasional bits where a character is noted to have gotten taller--or where a particularly exhuberant (ie. obnoxious ^^; ) character crows about her bust size having increased. There's even a bit where the character who's on the swim team becomes very dark-skinned, because it's summer and they're practicing a lot. And during a beach scene, under her bikini, they've even got it where she's got very visible tan lines from the school-issue swimsuit. I just *dig* bits of detail like that. :D It's just cool in a show that's really focused on being lighthearted and fun, that they also show the myriad ways the characters grow and develop, and learn more about each other. It's a surprisingly *real* show, not to mention being quite educational about Japanese culture.
On a more serious note, I was hearing on the radio this am that Congress has given the President the power to start war with Iraq whether the UN decides to get involved or not. ... I am...not sure what to think of all this, except that, well, I am unsettled, uncertain. I guess it's just that I have a lack of confidence and a lack of faith in the wisdom, judgement, and skill in the powers that be, and this makes me very worried about what could happen. And that's all I'll say about that--I don't like to discuss things political (usually it just gets me very upset/angry), but this is just what I feel. And I do go on about what I feel here, so... *shrugs* Change topic.
I discovered something in an artbook Gina brought to Anj's last night--she's got the English release of two CardCaptor Sakura artbooks. And in one of them was a picture of Touya playing a violin--now I thought that was just artistic license, but...*buuuut*... ^^ It seems that they translated the artist notes that are usually in the back of these books, and there it's said that even though it never came up in the manga or series, in the development of who the character actually was, it was decided Touya can play the violin, as well as the piano. *pauses, flails in a fangirl fit* Eeeeeeee! >D Don't ask me why, but this amuses and intrigues me greatly. I have to *use* this somewhere, somehow! :D So I have a bit of a violin fetish--sue me. (Electric guitar and piano are my favorites, but violin is my third favorite instrument, I think.) But this really makes me wonder if this opens the door for any CCS/YnM crossoverage. ^__^ *ponders, grins*
New quote of the day/week/whatever:
"Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them."
