Winged!Jared protecting his adopted city is the similar bit, but it looks like there are some differences (unless your superheroes are all mutants, and if Jensen's afraid of heights when he's getting rescued by Jared, then we're definitely borrowing from the same pile of ideas, LOL).

Also, your writing is gorgeously evocative and vivid and you should totally go on with it. There's nothing that sucks more than to come up with an idea and then get scooped before you can post it. I'm just highly amused. :)

ETA: Since protecting-the-city!Jared was my artist's suggestion, and I probably got winged!Jared from morganoconner , it's not really my idea anyway...
