Aw, thankyou :) And those are 10-man drakes. I think only two guilds total on Eldre'Thalas have the 25-man drakes (one Alliance and one Horde guild, and both of them are *extremely* hardcore, which just isn't my thing).
But absolutely no worries about WoW emo or venting here. XD Seriously, I *definitely* understand. That's exactly why this group of us formed Woken Too Soon back at the start of summer. We've dealt with the exact same experiences you have with 40man and then 25man raiding, and it's just been so fucking awful.
I think the only reason we've finally gotten a good, solid group of people is because we've managed to find a good group of friends between two servers. Half of us got to know each other over on Hellscream in a guild that was going to shit, then followed one person who found a really good 25-man guild over on Eldre'Thalas. Of course, then that guild went to shit, too. But with the announced changes regarding equalizing 10 and 25 man raiding situations in the xpac (ie the loot ilevels, the shared lockouts, etc), we decided to just split off and form a 10man guild on our own.
It was like, why not, you know? Because what we'd been seeing over and over is that it always seemed like in 25s, that you ended up with about 10 good people that actually gave a shit and tried, and the rest hangers-on that promised and never delivered. So why not just take the good 10, and be done with it? So we had the approx. 5 of us from Hellscream, and another handful of good people that we'd gotten to know on Eldre'Thalas, which combined for a solid crew. It's taken a bit of time admittedly, and we were honest to god taking puggers at first. But then we brought in two friends of a couple of our members. Though we've been having my husband's mage alt with and he's a good, solid player, but come Cata he's promised to raid lead for his alliance guild.
We don't quite have the roster we fully want yet, because we're at the point if a person or two can't make it, we're too short to do anything. But we're already setting up for recruitment--though as you obviously well know, there's the exact situations you describe with there being already too many guilds and too little talent on a server. So, yeah, it's all about cross-server recruiting. It's an absolute must. I think there's still a couple of our old friends from our E'T 25-man guild that we wouldn't mind having with us, but we're not the sort to poach--unless they come to us expressing an interest.
I definitely understand the hard to leave thing, when you have strong ties like you do to the guild you're in. I think the reason the group of us were able to make the move to E'T and then split off into our own guild was our only strong ties were to each other, as well as our similar goals. But cross-server recruiting might be the way for your guild to go, to get the talent from other places. I can't recall all the sites that we used to advertise on, but I know my buddy will be setting that up again soon, and I can give you the list of places when he does. Even if not for use now, for Cata when people are psyched and raring to raid again (because it is definitely end of xpac burn-out time again).
But something to consider, is if your group is willing to do 10man instead of 25man raiding. Because it seems really similar to our situation of about 6-7 of you that are truly good and committed, as well as being friends. Finding about 5 more who'll give 100%, be reliable, and stick around just seems a lot easier, even if it'll still require some recruitment.
I have to admit, none of our crew is perfect, especially me. But we're definitely focused on progression, and willing to do the best we can. And yeah, we have a few who're weaker links like on reliability, but we're willing to call each other out on it. Though we have a GM and a raid lead, because it's a small group of people that have known each other for a long time and get together well, we have a lot of shared responsibility and shared input. Anyone who half-asses it will and already has gotten called out on it, and will continue to do so. :D There definitely won't be the putting up with bullshit that drug our 25man guilds down.
