But I just find these things interesting and actually necessary for the plot development. If there isn't any character development, how can there be any story development?
Oh my gosh, exactly! And especially after the events of 5.22, had people expected to be no changes, no effects?
because how can you consider yourself a fan of this show if you suddenly hate pretty much 50% of what makes it this show?!
\o/ Another exactly! It's something that's kind of made me boggle at times, with the attitudes people have had--not just a 'why are you still watching?', but a 'why were you even watching in the first place?' Because some of the things people hate, are like, as you said, 50% if not more of the show. Like how can they hate Sam, when the show, no matter if you ship or not, is SAM'N'DEAN, no ifs ands or buts. And those that act like Castiel is the only thing that exists on the show, I'm just don't get it--because um, gee, wasn't the show about Sam and Dean for YEARS beforehand? Like if they want a show just about him, they need to lobby for a spin-off, not try to act like a show that's always been Sam'n'Dean should drop focus from either of those two, or even both. I really appreciate those that if they are a fan of his character, understand that he's part of a cast and not the only character in it. I may have certain secondary characters that I like, but I'd never act they should be main characters, and especially would never act like they should replace the current main characters.

Your theory is a good one--that does make sense.
