In other news, saw Kick Ass last night (yeah, giving going to that one guy's place another chance). Enjoyed it, for the most part, but on the other hand, eh. Felt really meh at a lot of aspects about the ending, especially what they did with such a (har) kick-ass character like Hit Girl. Also rolled my eyes at the sort of Watchmen-ish gore. I'm hoping not every movie is thinking that's the cool way to be now. Bleah.

Aaaaaand, I think I have a cold again. Yeah, I know, it's only been a month. Just thought my allergies were bad, and then that stupid cough started the last couple days, and now I feel sort of ugh. My immune system is full of so many failings and so much incompetence. :p

That's an interesting perspective on it I hadn't considered, I must admit. I'd read The Watchmen back in college, and so I'd known about how much more violent they made the movie--and the comic was pretty violent as it was. But I've never read the Kick-Ass comic, didn't even know there was one, so had no idea the movie was actually doing an accurate adaptation, in that regard at least.

Though man, I coulda used without seeing a guy pop in a giant microwave, even if it was very ketchuppy sort of blood splatter. XD;

Kick-Ass was a REALLY (http://www.atomicpopcorn.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/KickAss_03_SecondPrinting.jpg) graphically violent comic book (the image I linked isn't even one of the worst), even the panels without the direct violence in them usually have an abundance of blood spatter, and I think that was a lot of the point of it. The whole comic was about showing that the whole being a masked superhero thing is a noble and easy thing to do, because it's just really gritty and violent and it fucks up little girls instead of creating heroes.

Watchmen was graphic, but I thought the social commentary and philosophical questions was sort of the main focus of it, which is why I didn't like the violence in the movie. It felt very exploitative and "lol chainsaw off someone's hands for funsies and shock value" to me. D: And while I personally have no issues with gore (though I do think it's funny there's so much violence shown in movies, but if there's a hint of a nip slip there's censorship everywhere), I don't like it when it feels like it's there just for shock value.
