Woof. Not that much snow (esp since the husband and Mom did part of the shoveling yesterday morning), but the ice underneath is most annoying. Am glad the husband did the main part of the driveway again this am, because getting over the cold plus the usual asthma meant my lungs were really super freaking unhappy to be out in 5F plus windchill to work on the rest of the driveway and sidewalks. Super-tight and wheezy when I came in, though it seems to be settling back down to just irritated coughing. Tea helped, and the ice cream, well that was just a morale boost. Odd that I don't feel muscle aches from shoveling, but that my *hands* and wrists freaking hurt. Ow.

Have been meaning to read Gunnerkrigg Court for *years*. Was reminded of such awhile back when certain persons on my friends list mentioned it, but still never got around to reading it--until yesterday. Where I read the entire thing, all 833--now 834--comics, in one day. Why have I not been reading this for *years* now? Holy beans, so good. Poked Anj to read it, must get Kelly to check it out, too. I think they would love it.

But fffffff, when did it get to be February? Afdsafkjfjk. I'm pretty much at the point of ditching the idea I had for a BigBang, as well as my two secondary ideas. Trying to decide if an older idea is even worth considering. So I can, you know, like take notes and outline and maybe even actually start writing. I'm so freaking doomed. T__T

Also: yesssss, finally found a torrent for The Good, The Bad, The Weird's soundtrack. Hard. To. Find! I was going to buy from Amazon, but the only seller there wants $90 (and it's out of print from other sources such as yesasia.com). No way in *heck*. >_< So many stupid "sponsored downloads" out there, no way I'm signing up for something that does the free at first/pay later thing, don't trust that at all. But at least, hey, torrent. YEHARRRG, AVAST YE SCURVY SEADOGS, PREPARE TO BE BOARDED. So worth it, this soundtrack is *so good*. And it reminds me that even with the...interesting ending, I think I want a DVD. So funky, heh.

Once again I am late to the party. Last night for the first time I tried Pandora, and FFFFFFF why have I never tried that before? BEST THING FOR MUSIC EVER \o/ Can tell that I'll tear through the free hours quick, though. :/

Holy shit, allergies today. So awful, so very, very awful. 'slike having all the worst parts of a cold, without the cold itself. Want to medicate myself into oblivion (sad, since I'm already on so much prescription stuff). But no oblivion. Need to get my mininano/wrisomifu stuff done. Ugh.

Self, go write words. 100. I don't give a rat what they are, just do it. *whine* want to set my sinuses on fire. on fire T_____T

Very minor accident, but the husband got hit by some woman when driving back to work for middle-of-the-night overtime last night. He's fine, and it's just a little damage to the driver's side taillight and surrounding area/bumper, but now he's got to deal with filing with insurance fun. Her fault, she ran a flashing red light, so he had the right of way. But whee. She must have been traveling at a good speed though, because the hit spun the car around a good 180 degrees, he said. Though it wasn't enough to trigger airbags. Lucky it was so late/early morning, so there wasn't any other traffic, or it could have been something multicar.

Was woken up a little bit ago by the doorbell (yeah I know, I'm a slacker, I suck)--flowers from my in-laws, as a belated birthday gift. I guess maybe the husband's birthday coming up on the 31st reminded them they'd missed mine back in August? To be honest, I didn't even notice they missed it...currently thinking "didn't they send a card/check or something?"--but I guess they must not have or they think they hadn't?

Had to have a tech out yesterday evening because our internet, cable tv, and even our phone were acting weird. Turns out that one, there was a broken component where the main cable company line meets the line run to the house. But also--the line to the house had been chewed into by squirrels exposing and damaging the inner wire. Squirrels. I just...what.

I dunno, I think the 'how to ruin forever' options for all three should be boxes where no one says anything at all.

For so little happening, life feels very strange at times. Also, holy hell, why is waking up so hard. And fuck allergies, seriously.

Blahblahblah WoW... Got Wynn her 2pc of t10 finally, and finally got my dk to Northrend. The best part of which is he's my alchemist, so the moment I dinged 68 on him, I made him transmute spec and ground out the skill to 450. That toon should be handy to have going into the next expansion.

Saw the "Supernatural - Fun with Real Audio (Advertisement Edition)" vid recced a couple days ago, and I think I'm going to watch it every freaking day because it makes me crack up so much. Perfect. :p Fandom needs to remember to laugh more often.

Helloooooooooooo, J2 prompt. This so sounds like a Jared line like woah (can't decide if it'd be an AU where he says this when they first meet, or a sort of AU where they already are friends but he for some reason says it anyway. :F )

So many tiny, minor annoyances leaving me so stupidly stressed today. All's done, but I'm still feeling FFFFFFFFFF with leftover adrenaline. (A day involving not one, but two trips to the DMV--the first of which had nearly a hour and a half wait on its own--is never a spiffy day. But Mom needed a state ID to be able to get a notarization, and the website wasn't clear so she didn't have one of the required proof of ID and arghl SO many people on a Monday.) Didn't help that it was nearly 3pm before we realized we hadn't eaten at all, except for the coffee I had while driving us on errands. I NEVER forget to eat. But it was that sort of day.

Ohhey, there's the adrenaline going away. Holy cats, tired.

I'll be humming that the rest of the week now.

The story of my life.

Rereading http://www.machall.com. I like Ian and Matt's 3 Panel Soul a lot, but I still dig their Mac Hall a lot more. Used to be my absolute favorite webcomic--and I'm still kicking myself that I never bought their compilation book for the strip when it was available.

Boo for tree pruners that never bother to come by and give me their estimate to fix storm damage. It's been a month >_< (those branches that took down our power line weeks back are still on the left of the driveway). Called another company today, they should give an estimate Monday. Take that, other company.

Still fighting that cold. Isn't getting worse, just is being really, really slow to go away. Life's mostly about sleeping and being really tired. James'd taken a couple days off work and really wanted to go to the zoo, so I did that with he and Mom Tuesday for a few hours, but that kicked my ass hard. Good to get out in the sun a bit though (even if we kept to inside exhibits because it was so hot). But I haven't even done WoW much--even sat out of the raid last night so I could lay down early. Thanks to those that have sent 'get better' wishes. ♥ It's appreciated, truly. I've just been crap at answering my comments again, sorry. :(

Dad and my stepmother stopped over for awhile this morning to talk about my aunt (my dad's sister). This is...kind of the home stretch for her. She's been having another round of chemo (after they'd found how her cancer'd spread back during that surgery she'd had in February), but it's been going really horribly, and she's so incredibly ill and dehydrated. They're having to stop it because her kidneys are failing again. And it's one of those things that there's just no more chemo that can be done. When Dad took my aunt to her oncologist, she was compassionate and definitely is a good doctor, but was bluntly honest about how advanced the cancer is now. Obviously this is really rough for my aunt, and even just talking about it with us, Dad was alternating between being strong and starting to cry. The doctor had said my aunt will be able to see her granddaughter be baptized in early September, but beyond that... I wonder if we'll still have her with us come Christmas. Anyway. She's been a survivor for twelve years now, so she's done fucking well, and that's what really matters.

Followed a link from someone's Twitter, saw this website:
http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2010/07/26/captured-america-in-color-from-1939-1943/
So very striking. I'm particularly fascinated by photo 66, because even though these are just day-in-the-life sort of photos, that one in particular looks like art. It looks like it should be an oil painting.

So time to time I read the webcomic Boxer Hockey, which I've been tempted to link to in the past, but there was one story arc so freaking *weird* (which turned out to be a dream) that I didn't. But this latest story arc just has me all OH HEY HEARTSTRINGS I HAS THEM. Starting here: http://boxerhockey.fireball20xl.com/?id=134 The current strip that's a short animation has me all 'awwww'. Sort of reminds me of me as a kid.

One for the 'everything is about SPN' files:

And leaving this link for myself for rereading, since I'm sure everyone in fandom's read it already:

Mildred: A College AU by [livejournal.com profile] causeways and [livejournal.com profile] walkawayslowly, J2, NC17, 62K+ words. Most adorable, sweet thing ever. Ever. I am so completely charmed by young, awkward, confused, discovering-himself Jared that it's not even funny. The background characters are delightful (And I think some are OCs, and I *never* like OCs usually).

Anyway, time for lunch, making myself shower, and most likely more sleeping. Wooooo, crazy times.

1. For the [livejournal.com profile] spnland writing challenge 004: Brevity (one sentence writing challenge). None of mine won, but at least three of them made it to the second round of voting. [livejournal.com profile] keerawa and [livejournal.com profile] seisei_ftw kick ass. I'm giving myself brownie points for recruiting 'em both last apocalypse. Team Hell continues to rock out and party hard this apocalypse. ♥

2. I woke up, on my own, without alarm, at 5:35am. What the hell in fuck.

3. Also, still feel like crap. Awesome. Really hoping the cold isn't trying to turn into something needing antibiotics.

4. Didn't go to that one guy's place for movie night (yeah, yeah, I know...husband really tried to play mediator and eh, I just eventually let it all blow over), because of said cold, but I'm glad I had an excuse since what with no air conditioner I guess it was 95F over there. Disgusting. But he loaned us his Batman: Under the Red Hood dvd, so I didn't miss out. Which is rather awesome of him.

5. http://catandgirl.com/?p=2547 Reminds me of internet fandoms. It's a small, small online world sometimes.

6. Sam, Sam, Sam, Sam, Sam. Jared, Jared, Jared, Jared, Jared. There. At least he's got *someone* out there thinking about him.

7. Remembered the other day why I liked O-Zone. Some of their slow songs were really pretty. And of course, who can't like Dragostea Din Tei. For some reason, it made me nostalgic for old memes and flash animations.

8. August needs to quit going by so fast.

Yep.

Took Mom out for dinner for her 60th yesterday, and gave her the Kindle that my brother, his gf, and the husband and I all got for her (for birthday and Christmas, at least for James and I, considering our budget). She's very gleeful about it.

Realized it's been over 3 years since I posted Put Your Hands Into The Fire (a KHII thing for that one springkink community). That one to this day remains the only thing I've written that I not only like, but have read/reread for my own enjoyment. I think the thing I miss most about AkuRoku was feeling like I actually could do (at least my interpretation of) the characters right, that I actually had a bit of confidence/comfortability with them and didn't feel so awkward (and I feel like I did schmoop better back then, too). Definitely the reverse for writing for SPN now--I have yet to really feel comfortable in Sam and Dean's heads, and even Our Endless Numbered Days isn't one I truly like (I see so many things I did wrong with it, ugh. How the hell did it ever get recced.).

It's funny, I've written four short things and one long piece for both fandoms. Though that doesn't count any [livejournal.com profile] spnland work (which in a way I don't consider because some/most of it was half-assed, none was beta'd or submitted to any communities) or poetry (I have trouble counting poetry amongst fanwork in a way because sometimes it feels like fandom doesn't really count it--like at some of the comms that track fanworks for a pairing, they'll note fic, serial fic, bigbangs, drabbles, art, videos...but not poetry.). If I counted all that, I've done more for SPN, which makes me even more frustrated with feeling like such a bumbling newbie still.

Am worrying about the challenge I signed up for at [livejournal.com profile] summer_sam_love. The germ of an idea I had (I claimed doing a fic tag for Swan Song) has refused to spark and feels pretty much dead. And I just can't seem to generate any other ideas at all, especially ones that haven't already been done and done again, and aren't just completely 2-D, flat and lifeless. I worry that I need to contact them and give the episode to someone else to claim--but I so wanted to do *something*, you know? I really, really think Sam is awesome and just wanted to *show* that somehow. Bah. I dunno. Maybe I'll give it another week or so.

I. I. What. But for some reason it *amuses* me.

This afternoon and evening was almost entirely comprised of doing a [livejournal.com profile] spnland puzzle challenge, and then redoing half because I am a dumbass who can't read instructions right. I love the feeling of "1am?? Where the fuck did my evening go??" :| (Even had WoW running, but barely actually managed to play, just treated it like a extra-fancy IM program--though not sure why, because I was talking with everyone in Vent as it was.) Also, I seem to have missed the Team Hell chat (last night?), because I can't seem to manage converting dates and time zones right. Dumbass x2 \o/

Having a cookout tonight with the folks I D&D with, though no fireworks planned. Should still be cool. Originally was going to make something to bring with, but just bought something premade, one because I'm lazy and two at the rate I'm going I probably would have bolluxed that all up as well, or maybe just burned the house down. :p (Nearly messed the oven up *again* Friday night, thanks to two el cheapo frozen pizzas on the oven rack and only one not-as-wide-as-the-two-pizzas cookie sheet beneath them. Woo, go me \o/ )

3am is probably not a wise time to decide I need schmoopy fic *right now*. :|

I swear, ASW would make the freaking best Supernatural fic prompts. Best, I say.

Omg, [livejournal.com profile] spnland is overrrrrrrr *flails* Well, the apocalypse is over, but points are still being tallied and there's not been an official announcement of a winner quite yet (though we pretty much know which team it is already). The next apocalypse will start July 1, and I think I am going to be crazy and join in again (woo! \o/). Omg, I did a fan thing and I didn't get overwhelmed and give up partway through I actually finished it yaaaaaaaaay. \o/ And speaking of [livejournal.com profile] spnland...

I wrote something homfg dumb for the crossover/fusion challenge no really hellooo crack )

Yeah. What is this I don't even \o/ I blame it on Team Hell's mod saying that bad fic was better than no fic at all. And I swear I caught a typo of a couple dropped words after I submitted it for the challenge, but hell if I can find where it was now. Ohwell \:p/ (Oh, and that was one of the two entries voted Most Creative. It was that, I guess. XD; )

What, only 62% humidity? LIES. It's freaking saturated out there. D: Ugh ugh ugh. Just bringing in groceries shouldn't result in ending up sweat-drenched. Gross. >p (Dear Nebraska: You suck. No love, me)

So yesterday when the techs were over doing the vent cleaning, we shut all the cats out on the enclosed porch, the one that's separated from the kitchen by a glass patio door. Cat 2 of 4, Missy, (the Maine Coon fuzzy-tubby bear of a diva princess cat) at one point decided she was going to make a break for it and run from the porch into the kitchen oh yeaaaaah. Remember the glass patio door? Yeah. *Bonk*. Good thing she's got a skull that's like granite (which is obvious when she decides she must nuzzle by ramming her head up under a person's nose).

Someday I will talk about something other than cats. Today is not that day.
